Ok guys, gotta a question for u??

Been stuck in the stone ages for too long I think... Still have dial up connection.. I am getting completely annoyed w/it anyway.. Keep getting disconnected or websites like books freeze on me at the most important times like halftimes...

Anyways which way do u guys think is the cheapest high speed way to go, or do they all end up costing about the same in the end anyways... I can do through the cable here road runner, aol, sbc, or go get directway through dtv..

Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!

Also can u have 2 computers in diff. rooms on at the same time!!

Thanks! Countinguy :)

I use Road Runner and it's fast and reliable!!! Really fast!! Once you use a high speed DSL, you will NEVER use dial up again!!!

(Porn loads so damn quick that..... oh, never mind!) :D :D

Just my 2 cents bro!!!

With any service you should be able to get two PC's going at the same time with a DSL or Cable Router. But I have have never seen High Speed this cheap if you can get SBC service.

SBC.com - SBC Yahoo! DSL now just $26.95 Per Month for High Speed DSL Service!
Order SBC Yahoo! DSL for a one-year term now for just $26.95 per month, and receive a $149 Wireless Home Networking kit with $99 rebate (taxes and a $14.95 shipping and handling fee apply), or receive an Instant Credit on a DSL modem -- that`s a $99 value (taxes and a $12.95 shipping and handling fee apply). Plus, get free activation and a free self-installation kit. BTW, this expires 12/1/03, so use it or lose it.

The Standard Plus Package seems to be the best deal:

128Kbps Upstream

Only word of caution I would have with DSL is that it can be slower depending on the number of DSL user's on your line in the area. You don't have to worry about that with a cable modem.

If you do end up going high speed and have a laptop, I highly recommend getting a wireless router. If your laptop isn't wireless enabled you would have to get a wireless card plus the router (about 60-75 bucks now) so the cost does go up.

just got the earthlink cable modem....works great....got a wireless router (up to 4 computers can be online at the same time)....got a wireless card for my PC....you NEED to upgrade my friend...missing out on free $$ when you get disconnected....and earthlink is only $15 more than MSN dial-up!

roadrunner is great here as well....

haven't used DSL mush, but have never had problems with cable modem;)

I think it's the other way. Cable wanes when more users online. Actually have used both for a couple of years each. I'm sticking with DSL.

DSL is the better of the 2.

Re: your question about having 2 computers running (internet) at the same time, yes but it can be tricky.

unless you have them side by side you will have to hard wire a cat5 connection from one room to the next. you will also need a router. you can hire a person to do it for you or go to home depot for supplies and do it yourself.

good idea cisco. if you want to stay on the cheap route, try out the netzero high speed package. it will load your webpages significantly faster but your download speed will remain the same.

with DSL - it all depends how close you are to your Central Office. I had DSL - and at first, the connection was slow (cuz they cap it), then I just couldnt keep any sync(no connection). For me, Cable is much better.

It all just depends - some spots, DSL can be faster for others it could be cable.

I would first and formost see how far you are to your CO...then have someone from SBC test the line.

by the way, fawk SBC - they suck :thefinger I hope they go bankrupt

DSL is often served out of remote terminals now as well. So if you are a long way from the CO you can often still get a pretty fast connection.

If you end up getting a wireless router and need a PC card for your laptop I have one I am not using, it's a Linksys and I have the software, my new laptop has one built in, if you want it I will give it to you, let me know.
