Mass -10 over St Francis NY
Think this line will change by tonite but I jumped on it.I hate Lappas as a coach and this yr he is on the hot seat. His offense is the worst. His teams can't rebound or score. But they do play defense. He has one of my favorite players at the pt gd in Anderson. He is "nice".Can stick the 3,dribble penetrates,passes,rebounds[5'10]and hits his FT's.With 3 starters back from lyr's terrible team thank god Anderson is in control.Lappas did do a great job recruiting figuring he's gone this yr if he doesn't win.Bowers the 6'4 gd will start and be a threat to score.Maxwell another fr gd also will play a lot.Throw in Cox and Chadwick[juco] and Mass has depth at the 1 and 2's.Freeman 6'9 sat out last yr will be their big scorer and rebounder. He will dominate in the paint.Viggiano was the steadiest player lyr avg 7 and 3 bds.Lee is the 6'9 center who needs to step up this yr.
Mass is coming off a big disappointing yr and with Bowers and this new group of kids I see Mass improving.Mass defense esp the perimeter is solid. But with the influx of freshman that might drop in the begining of the season.
St Francis lyr led the Northeast conf in scoring. But unfortunalty there 3 top scores graduated.Actually got their diploma's.Thats what happens when you go to a Cathloic college. But the Terriers are undersized.Cavalieri is there top scorer and he's 6'0.Brown at 6'4 can score and 6'1 Quintana can shoot. The problem is they play a 3 gd offense.Inside are 2, 6'7 and 6'8 kids that are avg and not scorers.
Big time matchup problems tonite.St Fran's strength is outside shooting. That is one thing Lappas has worked on.St F has no one to stop Anderson penetrating and shooting and no one to keep Freeman of the glass.Bowers and the other frosh will shine tonite.Mass is quicker, bigger, has more greyhounds[kinda like Nevada last nite over vermont]etc, etc
Mass at home was 9-7 but 6-8 ats. They did lose at home to Lafayette and just beat Fl Int.But they did win at home by 20 or more to Columbia and Rider.
St Fran needs an assist from Assisi to cover the 10.Mass wins by 15-20

Hofstra +4.5 over Marist
Marist opens up tonite in Poughkeepsie.Word in the streets is Magarity is laying low because he is really pleased with his new team.If you recall lyr he was down to 7 players and everyone was playing out of positions. He did lose his best player in Eppie.Lyr he started the season off with 3 players out.One transferred, one was ineligible, and one got shot in the jaw at a bar across the street from school.Monagan had his jaw wired and was red shirted. He is the one who Magarity is laying low on.He looks unreal in practice and will contribute big time tonite.Red Foxes return Young who is solid[10p6r]Ellerbee can return to the 1 with Hood finally stepping up. Handy is the 6'8 Morman who avg 10 pts.has a nice 10 ft jumper. But McClurkin the 6'9 post player will be the Foxes biggest addition. From going to a gd offense now for the 1st time in 2 yrs Marist has a post player.Add Orman and Parks as new recruits and Marist has depth and could be dangerous.
Magarity said it in todays paper"we will be playing game to game trying to find our rhythm and chemistry".He has so many new players i think it will take time..
Hoftra comes in tonite from a big time disappointing season. But they bring in a frontcourt of players that could be trouble for the Foxes.Adeleke at 6'8 is the human vacuum cleaner on the bds. He's the stud out there tonite.Avg 16 pts a game and lyr 11 bds.Was 2nd in the nation on the glass.Walker at 6'6 is back after being out a yr.He can score and rebound inside.Gibson the 6'6 fd who was suspended so many times i lost count is back.He can play with his back to the hoop and is tough to stop inside.Thats 3 strong players inside.
The weakness is at the gds but Pecora did a great job recruiting.Washington will start and if he knows his role he will be good.Radziejewski the 6'5 shooting gd has big time range. He avg 10 pts lyr.Souffrant has been replaced at gd in favor of super frosh Rivera and Stokes.Hof also has the 6'8 Lithuanian, Kieza who can shoot.
This is a tough game to capp because know one knows what the Foxes will do with all their new faces.Marist will play a lot of zone tonite 3-2 to negate Adeleke. Can the young backcourt of Hof. control the tempo and get the ball inside? We'll see.Hofstra can win outright.I'll grab the +4.5.Think this game is close and goes right down to the buzzer.Marist does shoot good Ft's and Hoftra is terrible at the line.

Ga Tech-7 over La-Laf
Would of jumped on the rajun cajuns but with Southall,Greene,Williams all out will go opposite and take Hewitts Bulldogs.A lot has ben written on this game already..
Mass -10.......10 boxes...strong play
Hofstra.........3
Ga Tech.........1
Hit last nite with Nevada...don't think Vermont ever challanged them.

Box -- nice call on Nevada last night; Vermont never showed up.

Good write-ups. Nothing to add here, but todays short card looks a little odd...not sure why Hofstra is getting points and UMass only by ten??

I'm going to lay low today and maybe jump on something at the half.

Hofstra vs. Marist will be on Fox Sports New York... Line looks strange to me as well superbook... Hofstra more experienced and dominant on the boards, yet getting 4.5...... ?

superbook...wolfpack is a different breed then a catamont.Nice nite last .congrads[what the hell is a catamont]
hoops...are boys are not getting any lite...none.Maybe Eric if Hofstra goes zone.I was with RM last week.I guess Sos told him that Monogan is the real deal and the big guy, McClurk can play.
Hows the left coast? It's starting to get cold here.I caught a bad cold and feel achy.I read todays headlines of the ThR and it says "Flu epidemic" hits area.

A catamount is a type of mountain lion that used to roam around in the Green Mountains; now extinct??

Vermont's O looked extinct last nite.

Hope that your plays hit and you don't get the flu.

Box -- your scouting report on Marist is awesome...obviously they're much more talented than we've been led to believe and this supports why they're favored by four. As you know Red Foxes are tough at home and Hofstra has never been great on the road.

I'm leaning to Marist.

Thanks for the info.

superbook, they are.Magarity has 10 kids to play and that excludes the 2 local kids that "Hoop" and I know.
The Monagan kid is slasher that can shoot. He is totally innocent of the shooting lyr.He was just there at the bar with teamates and classmates. Some guy with a gun shoots a round off and it hits Monogan in the jaw.Three inches higher and he's dead.
I think the Foxes will sneak up on some teams this yr.I went with Hofstra because of there frontline. And Adeleke is tough.I think this game goes down to the wire.Hopefully Hof's FT shooting doesn't kill me.
Marist's zone defense could give the Pride problems. But Hof has that kid from Christ the King HS Radiejewski. He can knock them down.
Hoops..its televised on fox.But I'm about to take a alka selzer cold tablet and its "lites out for me".I'll tape the game.
But UMass is the play tonite....I forgot to mention I'm 3-25 when I'm backing a Lappas team. But tonite I'm crawling out of my Lappas foxhole...
