Dam near laughable. 1999 Clinton to Kosavo on Thksday. Then 2003 Bush finds out Senator Clinton will spend two days in Iraq one being Thksday. So a hurry up we must visit Iraq for Bush. I do hope others can see through the smoke. Not saying it's a bad idea. Two hours is better then nothing. But should have thought of it before them darn Clintons.

I find it hard to believe he cares what the Clintons do.

I also thought the soldiers' cheers were very genuine when he stepped out, didn't you?

Bush did the right thing. The guy is a stud.

What would you want him to do? Announce the time of his arrival and how long he intends to stay. The word is he had his people look into this six weeks ago.

He was there because he is a man who cares.

CTOWNGUY was right. Hillary hates the military.

I'm a pretty easy going guy and it can be difficult for me to say I hate someone. However, when it comes to Hillary and Bill, it's pretty damn easy.

First off let me say I think they were both there for the publicity, but why is Bush a hero for going and Hillary no good? That is what I do not understand about you right wingers. They both do the same thing. I think they both did it for publicity so call me what you want but at least I am consistent.

Clinton has no business anywhere near military areas. She and her hubby have protested war, blastphemed our military long before getting in the national public-eye.
I've never heard any change of philosophy, so she's definately there, in a very screwed-up way,,for politics. Funny how her supporters, like djv, can't see this.
Bush was there for politics also, no doubt this. But, he is the C. in Chief of our military, so at least he has a duty.
Drawing any comparison with Hilary is sickening.
They were my neighbors in the 80s, so I know about which I speak!

Stevie I've search every paper I can find including fox and can't find the 1st negative comment on Hilliary or Reeds trip there?
Which publication am I missing?
Same with modererate Dems as Liberman, don't see anything neg on Bush's trip.
now if you go left to Deans site------

Which brings me to a question since his site is basically a site to solicit funds--what happens to money he collects there but does not spend on campaign? I think I know the answer since he changed to soft money tactics but not sure.

----and speaking of soft money: Billionaire Soros in 2000 spent 18 million on campaign fianance reform on soft money and now is giving 15 million to democrat activist in the form of soft money:shrug:

Hey guys I never said it was wrong just amusing. It goes on all the time. Old man Clinton gives one of his money raising speeches. The next day Mr Bush is in front of the camerias with his toughts.
Not sure what good 2 hours in a airport did over all. But for the 400 or 500 troops there they seems too like it. Im surprised since majior hostilities are now over. Why Bush didn't stay a while and visit a few more places. He missed some dam good photo opts. Hey there all politician guys. Come on you know how this game is played. Am I one of the few to see it and say it. Bush and Clinton are pros.

Hillary to Troops: Support for War Fading

In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.

Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."

Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."

She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually lose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.

"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."

Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.

"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."

The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.

"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

For all the free people that still protest. You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best. Your voice is strong and loud, but who will fight for you? No One standing in that crowd. We are your fathers, brothers, and sons, wearing boots and carrying guns. We are the ones that leave all we own, to make sure your future is carved in stone. We are the ones who fight and die,We might not be able to save the world, well, at least we try.

We walked the paths to where we are at and we want no choice other than that. So when you rally your group to complain take a look in the back of your brain. In order for that flag you love to fly, wars must be fought and young men must die. We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear. If that's not respected, we would rather stay here. So please stop yelling, put down your signs, and pray for those behind enemy lines. When the conflict is over and all is well, be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Blitz yes I voted for him. But I wonder why some days. Hey I was looking for a little contuined grid lock. Dont like same party in for more then 8 years. Thought I had it when Gore won the populer vote and Bush got the supreme court vote. It seems to be the only way to stop the spending in DC. Like John Mc Cain said the other day. There spending money in DC like drunked saliors. And my Party is in control and not doing anything to slow it down. Amen John. And it started at the White House. Bush thought he had some mandate I guess. But what he forgot was the country was very devided on that election. And the polls are back to showing that. But anyway I still think it's just funny how he reacts to ever thing the Clintons do. Maybe it's the hang over from Dad getting beat.

I heard it the other way around. Started in Afganastan then Pakistan, then Iraq. Her trip was planned months in advance, Bush's trip was planned about a month ago.

There are a lot of things Bush is doing that I don't agree with but, with all due respect djv:
1.) Would you feel better if all this $ went to AIDS research?
2.) I've never noticed that Bush is worried about the Clintons. At least he isn't blaming his troubles on a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy.
3.) Wasn't it the Clintons who would not let Military Uniforms be worn @ White House functions?

chanman,

when i heard about hiliary's comment to the troops about bush i was disgusted with her. i voted for bill twice & have defended him in the impeachment witch-hunt, but his post presidency behavior is abhorrent. i have never heard another president, other than carter, comment on a president's policies like he does. and her comments are sickening. i wonder how the soldiers feel putting their life at risk & then hearing her comments. that must be demoralizing. and i believe most americans are also sick of the clinton's conduct since "they" left office. hilliary has as much of a chance of being president as i do.

djv,

stating that bush went to iraq because hilliary went to afghanistan is a ridiculous comment. presidents going to the battlefield is a long time tradition going back to lincoln. johnson went to viet nam, bush sr. went to the middle east after the first gulf war, & clinton went to bosnia. i, for one think it is a good idea for a president to thank the troops for their sacrifice & think it boosts the morale of the soldiers.

Sheez I am slipping. Fox better start doing a little better reporting, didn't hear about any of this but did notice in short clips I saw that soilders did not look at all inspired by her.
Not too concerned on how the troops take it in general, as Jane Fonda did nothing but create hatred toward her and her affiliates with her spiel to us. When Hilliary speaks of Amercans views they are aware of which element she speaks for.
More concerned of Iraq's take, it would be quite detrimental to those currently sitting on the fence on which side to support if they thought we would pull out and leave them hanging again.
Fortunately the al-Jazeera network does not broadcast there right now so hopefully most won't hear it,in Iraq anyway.
I am sure the French are applauding and the terrorist got an added spark.

---and just when I had given up on any indictments on the Rich pardon it seems there is new light in the tunnel. Appears someone is singing like a canary--could be interesting week ;)

What an unbelievable story. George Bush sneaks out of his ranch at Crawford, Texas to make a surprise visit to our troops in Baghdad. I watched that moment when Bush walked out from behind that camouflage curtain a dozen times... and never got tired of the reaction of our troops when they saw their Commander in Chief walk out.

It didn't take long to see that this was going to mean a tremendous boost to Bush's popularity. And you just knew that Democrats and their leftist fellow travelers in the media were going to have to find a way to fault Bush and criticize him for the trip. Here are just a few examples:

Philip Taubman is the Washington Bureau Chief for the New York Times. Taubman says that there should have been a way to take more reporters. Then, apparently with a straight face, Taubman says that people are perfectly capable of maintaining a confidence for security reasons. He calls the trip a "bad precedent" with many questionable aspects. Yeah, right. Surrrrre ... these reporters wouldn't have told anyone, would they. I guarantee you that some reporter would have managed to leak news about the trip knowing that such a leak would have turned Air Force One around.

Then we have Tom Rosenstiel. He's the director for something called the Project for Excellence in Journalism. If he's not a Democratic lefty I'm a rap artist. Rosenstiel is upset because the reporters who made the trip didn't spill the beans! Can you believe that one? Rosenstiel says that these reporters are in the business of telling the truth and they can't decide it's ok to lie (about where they're going) because it serves a larger truth or good cause. Let's get Philip Taubman and Tom Rosentiel together to has this one out.

CNN is going to do some griping too. Just two days before the trip the White House dismissed a two-person crew from her network from the pool of reporters covering the president. They were told that nothing was going to happen for a few days. And do you know who did provide the pool coverage from television? Jim Angle of Fox News Channel, that's who. So CNN's line is that the White House put together its own group of people to accompany him on the trip. Fox over CNN? Imagine that.

And what about Democrats? Well ... I imagine a lot of them will be chiming in with their comments and thoughts today. Did they just get their speaking points from former Clinton press spokesman Joe Lockhart yesterday: Lockhart said "This is a president who has been unwilling to provide his presence to the families who have suffered but thinks nothing of flying to Baghdad to use the troops there as a prop."

So, there you go. The Democrat line is that Bush was using the troops as a prop for his reelection campaign. My guess is that somewhere today you'll hear Democrats saying that Bush put these troops in extreme danger by gathering them together for his speech. If word had leaked out to Hussein's agents they would almost certainly have attacked that tent where the troops were gathered in hopes of getting the big prize. I'll also guess that before too many days pass by you'll hear some Democrat say that Bush should pledge not to use any video of this Thanksgiving event in his reelection campaign.

And how about our friends at Democraticunderground.com? This is the website where loyal Democrats go to trade thoughts and ideas with each other.
Click here to read a thread of comments on Bush's visit. Do it fast, though. democraticunderground.com has a habit of pulling particularly revealing conversation threads when words gets out to normal, rational Americans. Just in case they do pull the thread, here are a few of the things that are being said: Warning: These Democrats tend to use some pretty foul language when they're angry and scared.

? I fear that this one gesture will be the tipping point past which * re-connects with wavering white males and so-called independents. The media is ga-ga over this farce of a visit. The messages from the whore centers will get much more syrupy and orgasmic as the weekend approaches cultminating in a literal ejactulation of praise and wonder on the sunday talk shows. Even Democratic senators will be stepping all over themselves to praise *'s holy visit as an act of courage and daring-do. It won't be pretty and it won't be easy to take.

I feel in my gut that this changes everything. The sheeple are just beginning to pay attention to the dawning political season and, for many, this stunt will be their initial waking image: "Our President is indeed a cool guy. Our President is indeed brave and true. Our President risked his life to visit our troops." And yada yada yada yada .....

Counter that with Dashle, and Biden, and Zell Miller, and all the rest of the regular cast of mealy-mouthed spinless Dems who, mark my words, will end up praising the piss-ant poseur, and what do you have? You have the very real makings of a blowout landslide for fascism and all that is transparently un-american gaining unambiguous approval in November of 2004.

This is the worst I've felt in my entire life on this shithole of a planet in this shithole of a country. I can't image what I'll feel like in early November 2004. I can't imagine feeling worse than I do right now but I've got to prepare myself for something I dread and fear to the very depth of my soul: The final and irrevokable loss of our democracy to fascism.

What the f**k have we become? In the final analysis it was all just so much sand sifting through our fingers. Just so much sand.

? Again, I fear that this stunt will be the tipping point reversing many of those stats. This feels big to me. This feels like it's the beginning of the end for us.

? Does he really think that anyone with a few active brain cells will see this as anything but an attempt to avoid, at all costs, the fate of the soldiers he has NO problem sacrificing the lives of daily. After all - this AWOL, unelected, moron's safety is sooooo much more important than theirs ? If I had a kid, husband or other family member over there I would be even more furious. Sneaky son of a bitch.

When ever you need to know how the press is reacting to events such as this check in with Howard Kurtz of the Post.
Here's your link to his coverage of this event.

i heard this morning that bush planned his trip to iraq well before clinton & reed.

bush's trip was important because it told the iraqi's & the rest of the world that the u.s. is not going to run.
