You may have missed the story behind that. Coach O'Brien all of a sudden has developed some weird throat disorder that renders him unable to speak above a whisper, which makes it very difficult to coach his team or yell at the officials. At the tournament in Hawaii, because he can't talk, he wrote "THIS IS SAD" in marker on his diagram board (I don't what you call that thing) and held it up to the refs because he thought the calls were all going against him. He received a technical foul.

I assume the signs were made as some kind of gesture of support for the coach, and the fans hold them up when they think the refs are making bad calls. Looks very odd to see the kids holding those signs, but I don't think they are directed at the players. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding of the signs.

yeah, Nole, I think you may have jumped the gun on this one a bit.


I will say though that this OSU team looks pretty fawking sad. Sullenger and Stockman are terrible. Usually, guards at that level can at least shoot well OR make good decisions and penetrate. These clowns can't do either.

LOL, when I was watching the game I didn't think about how awful that would look to see Ohio State down by double-digits and then see their home fans holding pre-printed "this is sad" signs. That's too funny. Even with the story behind it, it seems very odd to me that the fans were so convinced that the refs would make bad calls that they went to Kinko's and had those signs printed. I guess they were planning on complaining about the calls against OSU whether they were justified or not.
