Fellas,

Thinking of popping the question to a special girl and was looking for some feedback as to some good ways to go about doing it. Any suggestions? Save me the don't do it stuff...as I already know I shouldn't it :D

I can't wait to see some of these responses with some of the wise guys in this crowd.

Popped the question while hiking up a huge mountain while on vacation. Great view, literally no one else around for miles.

On Tuesday, I told my wife that Thursday was going to be Mary Appreciation Day. She gets all excited about things like that, so it covered it pretty well. Got up that morning and fixed breakfast for her in bed. Personally delivered flowers to her work and took her to lunch. Then had dinner prepared for her when she got home.

After apps and dinner, I told her I was going to get the dessert and brought out the ring instead. I told her sister, her best friend and two of my really close friends about 2 hours before I was going to do it. They arrived shortly after with champagne, then left after the toast.

I would say beyond me being a nervous wreck and sounding like a robot when I asked, it all worked out pretty well. She performs her rendition of my proposal upon request all of the time. It's quite a trip.

LOL aint that the truth. Went over what I was going to say for a good month, on the plane ride down had it all good to go. Then turned into an illiterate buffoon once the ring came out. Women will do that to you...

acehi... great mindsmust think alike!

I popped the question much the same way.. up on the mountains overlooking a lake while we were hiking. No one around for miles.

Did you get head behind the big rock next to the three trees twisted together at the trunks too?

as for another way to do it...

Put the ring in your wallet. When you are standing in the checkout line at thegrocery store with her, open up your wallet to get your money and when she peeks over your shoulder into the wallet say:

Well you nosy bitch, Iwas gonna give it to you later but since you saw it already, here it is.

women LOVE this!

spits - I just asked my girlfriend/fiance to marry me on Halloween and was trying to come up with ideas since April. There were things from asking her at a concert, a Yankees game, Central Park in NY and other thoughts. The best advice I got on the subject was to find something that would be meaningful to both of us, romantic and would provide a great story to tell for years to come. Best of luck with the planning!

Spits, I was going to suggest something along the lines of Bigdad2. Find something or some place that you both have a connection to and incorporate that into the proposal.

One proposal that I remember reading about was by Steve Alford, the guard from Indiana a few years back. His girlfriend used to rebound for him when he was practicing his shooting. He had placed the ring on the back of the rim before he was to practice his shots one night. I can't remember the whole story, but he made sure there was something wrong with the net I believe, went and got a ladder and had her climb up to fix the problem. When she got up there, there was the ring sitting on the flat part of the back of the rim. I know there was something more to it, but I can't recall the whole story, but you get the idea.

Just be original and have a common theme between the both of you and I'm sure it will be memorable one way or another.

Well, here is what I did.

I took my now wife to Murfressboro, Arkansas. (Home of the only diamond mine in North America.....costs like 5 bucks to dig in the dirt all day for diamonds). We went the whole nine yards...had her out there the whole day digging in the dirt, using the sluice (?sic...the thing you run water through and try to seperate dirt from diamonds. Anyway at the end of the day when she finally said she was ready to go. Convinced her to pick one more spot to dig....dug up a few shovel fulls of dirt and dropped the ring in...she sifted through it for a minute and then out it came. She was truly stunned....sitting in the dirt when I asked her. Anyway whatever you decide hope it works out.

I have a similar hill-climbing story. I took my girlfriend for a short hike up a hill next to Beauvais Lake, here in Southern Alberta after work. I was petrified she would feel the ring box in my pocket before we reached the top.

Anyway, she didn't and she couldn't figure out why I was kneeling facing her instead of looking the other way at the beautiful sunset. When I pulled out the ring all was clear and a magical moment I won't forget.

We were married (this July) on the boardwalk of the same lake, with the "proposal hill" in sight.

Agree with others about making it some place you love and will come back to

cheers

Not married, but gotta love the way my friend proposed. Apparently they were having dinner at pizza hut and he said to her
"well since your knocked up I guess we should get hitched huh?"

Strangely enough they've been married for 8 years now and have 3 kids

Marine, I guess that's another way huh? Stand at the edge of the cliff and say "so will you marry me or do I have to push you off?" :).

Seriously I would say anything personal is nice. Just don't put up a sign on the baseball scoreboard or similar. To me that's just tacky.

I slid the ring on her finger in the middle of the night......let her wake up the next morning, make me some coffee, then it took her about 30 mins to realize it was on her finger......Should have seen her face, PRICELESS!!!!!
