2 units.....davidson (+16) over charlotte
just feel like this ones an overlay. davidson has underachieved to this point and charlotte has a nice outright win in the carrier dome on their resume. ive always been a big charlotte fan, as theyre great as a conference usa underdog in certain spots. but theyre a chalk moneyburner. davidson's already played 3 upper-tier teams (carolina, textech, georgetown). they were smashed by all 3. not a great sign. but i still feel like theres enough talent and reliable shooting on that team that its gonna come together for them and theyll get better as the season progresses. believe it or not, davidson's numbers arent that bad. they shoot free throws well, shoot the 3-ball decently (theres good 3pt shooters on that team, they just have been struggling out of the gates) and they dont get hurt on the glass. obviously, it must be noted that teams like carolina and texas tech scored so much that there werent many rebounds for them to get, but in both of those games -- davidson competed on the glass and it was never a case of "wow- theyre getting destroyed on the boards". i expect this game to have lots of mini-runs. charlotte scores a shitload of points (90ppg), and both teams shoot the ball well. but charlotte doesnt make a commitment to defense at all, and they get 3-ball happy sometimes. they sometimes "shoot their opponent back in the game". davidson has been no prize this year, but charlotte isnt playing enough defense to justify all this chalk. just the way i see it.
