Let them celebrate!!!!! I'm pretty sure if we're in their shoes and had the chance to do what they do, we would celebrate after making a TD too. I know would. It's just a game. I love it when, KC Chiefs player does the worm in the endzone. That's great Chit man...

no thank you, I would prefer to see Football at a actual football game. Enjoyed it much better with guys like Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders, no dancing spinning self promotion. They acted like they had been to the endzone before.

Personal promotion has nothing to do with team sports, and make no mistake about that, these (celebration) have nothing to do with celebration, they are simply self promotion. Promotion aimed squarely at ESPN sport center etc. to get on television and to get compensated on.

And quite frankly there can be no "celebration" allowed, because nobody has the common sense to realize we're celebration ends, within no time at all you have Jack asses like Owens Sprinting to mid Field in danger of starting a full scale brawl between 90 professional Football players. Others making throat slashing gestures while others grabbing their crotch, awesome for the kids:rolleyes:

some players spike the ball, take a knee in prayer or point to the sky, to me these are somewhat different because they are sheer joy or briefly giving thanks, anything rehearsed or promotional or taunting to the other club should be vigorously penalized.

Like someone said earlier, if you enjoy that over the top promotional atmosphere, dancing struting, "look at me" type of thing it already exists in the WWF.

Yyz comment is right on the money

If the public (as Horn said) wants this crap and to be entertained

why did viewership drop like a rock after the 1st game and the whole outfit go under:nono:

maybe it was because the public and the football fans of the public don't want the BS and can get their fix from McMahon's WWF, not from their football.

Seems to me the case study is right before your eyes.

I'm definitely with intense operator & yyz on this argument . Additionally I was just thinking, why after a touchdown during one of these "celebration" have I never seen someone take out a patch of BOYS OR GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA, AND DO SOMETHING USEFUL LIKE SAY "MAKE A DIFFERENCE, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BOY & GIRL CLUBS OF AMERICA".

its never anything remotely like that, instead its:
1) ripping helmet off to expose self
2) start pointing at yourself
3) start pounding your chest, screaming "I'm the man" or something else ridiculous.
4) grab crotch or throat slash or something else that will look brilliant on sports center.
5) etc. etc. etc.

I do see your points about being more conservative, but I think you are taking it too far. I don't take football (or any other sport) as anything but entertainment. Where the XFL was lacking is that they were all promotion, no substance. Those football games were terrible, and THAT is why that league didn't make it.

I feel that these guys train all year and practice all week to do their job well. I don't mind if they do a little celebrating afterwards as long as it is not demeaning, delay the game, or using outside props.

I don't see the problem in players having fun while performing their jobs. It obviously looks bad when you are getting waxed and you are celebrating, but that is not really the topic of this discussion.

Do I think Emmitt, Rice, and others are more admirable for not over-celebrating? Of course. That is why those guys are the greats! But, if someone wants to add a little flare to the show, then so be it.

Simple- 1)no props (pens , cellphones, you know what I mean)
2) start the clock as soon as the TD is scored, if the ball is not snapped in 40, 45 seconds, penalize the team 10 yards on the kickoff.

I just wish some player would revive the Ickey Shuffle. Also, I have always been a fan of dunking the ball over the crossbar of the fg post and spinning the ball on the turf. All this other crap like the cell phone, sharpie in the sock, etc. is tired and has no place in the game.
