BATON ROUGE -- Running back Shyrone Carey and deep snapper Steve Damen of LSU have been ruled ineligible to participate in the Nokia Sugar Bowl, Coach Nick Saban said Monday.

Saban did not elaborate on the nature of the violations, but indicated it had something to do with NCAA rules pertaining to bowl games.

Being that LSU has a handfull of talented running backs, I really doubt this will affect them in this position. As far as the deep snapper, I am sure the next of kin will step up and fill the role. With almost 11 days to prepare I think he will fill in accordingly.

My contractor attended Shaw High School in New Orleans with Shy Carey and still has some contact with him. Apparently, Shy is not much of a 'class' guy and he has been playing disgruntled since Justin Vincent took over the starting role. I, for one, will be glad to see Shy go.

Deep snapper issue concerned me at first, but Cajun makes a good point--- 11 days to prep another deep snapper should be plenty of time--- ; However, Crazy Fingers point is well taken because 1 bad deep snap can lose such a big game. Hopefully it won't be that close.
