The Tar Heels travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for a neutral court match-up with UNC-Wilmington. The team got down to SC the 26th, so they should have had a few days of preparation under their belts. This is somewhat of a homecoming for Raymond Felton, who grew up in Latta, SC. I am very interested in this game, I think it will say a lot about the ability of this team to rebound from the tough loss last time out against WFU. I'm still a little surprised by the line, I think it is much too low. I think UNCW will try to slow the game down, but they don't have the roster that they had in past years. They are a mediocre team this year at best. This will be a good game for Noel to get some more playing time as well. After the holidays, it's hard to predict a teams performance. I think, though, that Roy will have the guys ready for this one. It helps that they have been down there for a few days, and I think they will be eager to show people that our record is no fluke.

I will update my record later, and may have a play on the total when it comes out.

Picks

UNC 1H -6 3 units
UNC -11 3 units

These are bigger sized plays for me, I guess I'll go big or go home :D

normally, its wise to go against teams the next time out who lose in the fashion carolina did vs wake. but heels have had 8 days to put it behind em. i think youve got a good play there. uncw is a dangerous program and very well-coached (not tellin ya anything you dont already know) but i dont see them hanging vs carolina. and im always lookin for dogs. but thats a chalk that covers imo. gl

Thanks for the input gman, I respect your opinion. I agree about the letdown, I think with the guys having had the time to go be with family and the holidays, it was probably nice that they were away from school and the press etc. In the past 11 would be too much to give up to UNCW as they had some strong squads, but this time I just can't see them covering. They are a very young team without the go to guys from the past few years.

agreed. like you said, the holiday break should help clear the players minds a little. if this gm was 3 or 4 days after the wake game, it would be bigtime trouble. a lot of people assume when a team loses that the next time out "theyll be out to prove something". in theory, it sounds plausible. but kids let games/losses linger and stay with them, and that leads to flat performances the next time out. and as you said, this uncw isnt quite the same team as recent editions. unless blizzard gets instant-eligibility and comes off the bench for uncw, you should be in good shape. gl man!

background from a UNCW fan on another site:

"Here's the deal... we aren't as good as last year right now because we lost sooooooo much....83% of the offense. Blizzard, Callahan and Burnette are now gone and the offense is struggling. You all know Goldsberry, the PG who set the NCAA tourney record by going 8-8 from 3 as a freshman against the Terps, but he is struggling right now. At the 2, Ed Spencer, a JUCO has that job but isn't shooting a high %....not typical of a UNCW 2 guard. Our most talented guards are freshmen, one of which is named David Noel. He's a fabulous combo guard talent and will be a great player! He and fellow freshman TJ Carter can both shoot the deep ball, are very athletic, but have struggled to learn our intricit defense schemes (especially Carter). Halston Lane (GT xfer) would be the 3 but is hurt with an acheilles tear and can't really go full. Look for an emerging sophmore, Taylor Lay to take his place. Anthony Terrell mans the PF position and is an amazing athlete but doesn't play consistently at a high level as he did in the 2002 and 2003 NCAA's. At the 5, 6-11 Aaron Coombs is the starter. He's coming into his own but doesn't possess great hands. The bench is UNCW's strength, we go 10-12 deep but are looking for that one star. That is our downfall right now. Noel will be that star but I don't even know if he knows that yet. Until a star emerges, this appears to be sheep without a shepard situation. Regardless, we finally get the shot before March. Is this an NCAA team? Nope, not right now but Brownell will find a way to get this young team ready come March. Next year, Yep....back to normal, I hope"

sorry, saint, didn't notice you had started a thread for this game, would simply have added to it instead of beginning new one...let's hope we can overcome this on-the-floor injury, gl, caper

I've never been so pissed about a break-even day. These lines were so off. It doesn't happen much that you see lines that are grossly off and go big on them, at least for me these were my biggest bets in almost a year. Both should have easily covered, I guess I should be satisfied with the split.

ALMOST a huge day

Unfortunately, so did I. My audio feed died right at the end of the 1st half, so I went to Sportsline and it said we were up 25-18, covering for me. So of course I thought I dodged a huge bullet.

Well fawking sportsline was wrong! Not the 1st time either. I called a friend down in NC and he told me the score I couldn't believe it. I then checked it w/ yahoo and another site and there it was, 23-18.
