I wish I was booking his action.

Bill Simmons, an avid pro wrestling and sports gambling fan who writes a column for Page 2 on ESPN.com, put up a link in his latest column to 13 betting strategies for the NFL postseason that he & a friend came up with two years ago. Here is the link: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020111.html

Folks, if you are handicapping games in any sort of manner resembling this, please do yourselves a favor and bet small. Holy hell. I knew sports journalists were squares when it came to handicapping, but if I was running the offshore where Simmons bet I would be laughing my ass off right now and offering him a free account to refer any other squares who handicap like that to join up.

I think a lot of times I get too into handicapping and sort of don't see the forest for the trees when it comes to just how misguided most gamblers are. If you struggle to win betting football in the playoffs, this column is a very good read to understand the type of strategies that will lead to failure over the long term every time.

I love Bill Simmons, Scott, but handicapping like this will kill you. "Never back a lousy QB ont he road,"? Holy crap, if I was a book I wish every person would handicap like that. "When in doubt, seek popular opinion & go the other way,"?, "Concentrate on how the team finished the season,"? These "handicapping methods" are as square as can be.

I am not attacking Simmons. He is a sports/comedy writer, not a handicapper. I am just pointing out a great example of a column showing some very square handicapping techniques as a good thing to stay away from.

Oh I didnt know he was comedy writer.

How come we can read all this stuff about square handicapping techniques and not read anything about wise guy handicapping techniques.

I guess the wise guys are used to not talking .

I wouldn't come into a Nick Douglas thread with your
dumb comments. Nick will take care of the likes of you.
