First off, someone was telling me it is not illegal to make a bet, but illegal to take a bet... does anyone know the validity of this statement?
2nd, someone I know has a local bookie who, along with the phone # to call in your bets, has a website that he set-up where you can make your bets also. You need a special password to enter the site (everyone has their own). My question is, if he was busted by the cops, can they trace who made bets online by tracking people isp #'s and by doing this are the people betting on the website making it easy for the cops to trace who is betting, or do the cops even care who is betting and just want to bust the bookie....

some of the levels to the street, he stands less of a chance of getting into any legal trouble than going this online route. One of my medium size locals is having a hard time setting up shop for hoops because they want him to go the online route. I guess they set him up somehow with an off-shore account. Problem is, the lines are in constant flux and this won't work for his situation. Now they want his players and will put him out of a gig.:shrug:
