miami,ohio (-1) over buffalo (8:00pm EST tip)
=====================================
this is a one of those spots where im not only backing a team, but also a coach. give me charlie coles and 11 days to prepare for a game and i will back him every single time. miami is already 0-1 in the conference. its early, but they cant afford an 0-2 start -- which would leave them playing catch-up with kent state the entire conference season. miami has been downright brutal at times this year. but buffalo just cant score against miami's defense. bulls have scored just 35,55,60,68, and 52 the L5 meetings. id be absolutely stunned if miami came out flat in an important mac game after being off for 11 days. buffalo is turnover-prone, and miami is a team that is tough to play from behind. redhawks have a 3gm homestand after this game. they need to -- and will -- win this game imo. the 1,500 screaming bulls fans wont provide much of a homecourt edge. buffalo's program has shown signs of life, and they will probably have the best player on the floor (battle) but i just dont see them having enough discipline to beat miami, especially a well-prepared and rested miami team. miami holds a 9-1 all-time series edge. not oblivious to the fact that some of those past meetings were mismatches; however, still feel its worth noting, as buffalo just doesnt fare well vs miami's structured half-court game.

According to the Sagarin ratings Miami has played the 28th hardest schedule and Buffalo the 204th. :eek:

Good luck on your play. I'll be tailing.

st.johns (+12.5) over syracuse (7:00pm EST tip)
=======================================
st.johns has actually showed some signs of life since jarvis was let go. i certainly dont believe he was the problem at all, but sometimes a new voice is needed. i think st.johns is physical and aggressive enough to stay within single digits here. i expected syracuse to be much more efficient from the line that they are right now. theyre hitting just 61% from the line. if not for mcnamaras 83%, they would be in the 50s %-wise. warrick and edelin hit 66% and 47% respectively. st.johns not a ton better at 64%, but i think syracuses inability to blow people out this year is directly related to the fact that theyre unable to sustain scoring runs at the foul line. im not trying to make syracuse out as a bad team. theres a reason theyre ranked and defending champs: warrick is a monster, mcnamara is a great shooter and syracuse hits the glass hard as a team. but st.johns just continues to play this team extremely well in recent years. the last 8 meetings in this series have all been decided by single-digts (6,2,1,6,5,2,2,7) (st.johns won the 3rd/5th/7th gm in that sequence). st.johns has never been a particularly great shooting team, but they find ways to score enough pts against the syracuse zone to take every game to the wire. dont see it being different here

B.J. Walker will be back tonight. Was Buffalo's leading scorer before he went down to injury early in the season. Just giving you a heads up. Buffalo should win this game tonight. I wouldn't take too much out of their past meetings, this is a different bulls team. They go 2 deep at every position and are a very tough team. They went into Toledo and dominated being up by 9 AT Toledo late into the 2nd half as 14 pt dogs. If the game had been on their home court Toledo wouldn't of stood a chance of coming back. Also, I'm thinking that Toledo is a better team then Miami. Buffalo should win this game no problem as long as they keep there heads in the game and play a full 40 minutes. Just my two cents... I'm running with the bulls tonight...

gman,
First of all good luck with your plays. I just wanted to agree with the previous poster saying buffalo is not too bad. In fact, I think they should be favored for this game. Anything can happen but Buffalo actually has a lot of value as a home dog tonight. I'll be playing them but as always I could be way wrong and probably am! Best of luck,
Grey

gfarrow/greystreet:

thanks for your replies. i guess im taking a "show me" approach against buffalo. their program is getting better, but theyve never been particularly disciplined. playing against miami's halfcourt princeton offense has always been tough for them. if you want to beat miami, you gotta make a commitment to defense and buffalo isnt there yet. maybe they get this win tonight, but a rested, well-coached miami team is going to be extremely tough to beat imo. thank you for your feedback. always helps to get different points of view.

Bulls can't do anything about 7-11 shooting from 3 from miami. UB announcer says every shot they had a hand in the guys face, and a couple times he said the ref could of called fouls on the Buffalo defender, but the kids are still canning the shots. Usually a 26% 3 pt shooting team... should of hit only about 3 of those. 12 pt swing, shoudl be down by 5 at the most at the half instead there down by 15. Might see a comeback in the 2nd half but not unless Miami starts missing some shots... nothing UB players can do about this. Ugh...

Just got back from the Manhattan Canisius game---had a small wager on Manhattan....smashed Miami.....Bulls record against any Mac foe is horrisd--the spread is kind of a joke---I thought (think) that the locals will lose tons of $$ tonite because I heard of a lot of people taking Buffalo for some reason.......

great job

great job

good gob on that st.johns game. I"ve been hitting them since new coach, vegas has"nt caught up yet. those two teams always play close. But it got me on the wrong side last night with Ind. keep up the good work. Iowa was my big play at home tonight,but Milw had the ball stolen twice in the last 1:00 to blow it. oes college seem to be much easier for you too G-man, or do the guys just never seem to give a shit in the nba?

for every 10 or 15 college basketball plays, i play 1 nba game. its to the point when i call my guy, he doesnt even read me the nba lines unless i ask about a specific game. to me, nba is all entertainment and should be bet with that in mind. i think its preposterous to drop large sums of money on coinflip games. many cappers often lament how "the nba is all overpaid guys who cant shoot and blah blah blah". perhaps. the level of talent is amazing that is on the floor every night. i just have no interest in betting it. some do, but to each his own. i just stick with college 90% of the time.
