Just reported by ESPN and Trev Alberts(who is an idiot), Coach Bill Callahan has accepted the coaching position for Nebraska University. IMHO, great move by NU....needed a big name for the program if they weren't gonna give it to Pelini, who I thought deserved it. Wonder how far behind he is recruiting and will it effect the upcoming season?

Well, good to see that the cornhuskers have finally found a head coach for next season. Agree with you pats fan (jpblack) that the Callahan move could prove very solid, especially in regards to the offense. If Nebraska can get some sought of pass offense in order and Pelini hangs around to continue his duties on defense then they may once again be a powerful force on the college football scene. Will be interesting to see how long it takes him to adapt back to coaching college footy as opposed to NFL. Feel a little sorry for Pelini but it was obvious the program was going to stop at nothing short of getting a big name coach. Think it will prove to be a good move IMO but only time will tell.
P.S Can't believe you would insult your own uncle like that Black (trev Alberts)!:D May also be able to compete with OU and Texas if he can establish some sought of offense which would be a nice change to previous years.

Will be very interesting to see what type of offense he can implement next season, since the current team is built for the steady running attack. Will take a year or two for him to get the right players in Lincoln to run an offensive system that is more pass orientented in my opinion.

I think the biggest question cornhusker fans must have is how well can Callahan recruit? If he turns out to be a good recruiter, Nebraska should be back on top within 3 years. If he is a poor recruiter but great coach, Nebraska will be no better than 8-4 every year. Right now, Nebraska does not have the athletes to run Callahan's offense so recruiting will be very important to how succussful Callahan is. I wish Callahan good luck because I think Nebraska deserves to be an elite program again. However, I do wish Nebraska would start playing a tougher OOC schedule.

Tougher nonconference schedule? What? Scott, you know that Penn State was scheduled at least 7 years in advance don't you? At Southern Miss? What is so wrong with that schedule? We play at Pitt next year, we play you guys in a couple years, what do you want?

Iowa ignore him as he compares EVERYTHING to USC which is quite funny considering they haven't done much over the last 5 years. It has only been the last 2 years that they started to make a comeback.

These were Nebraskas OOC opponents this year.

Utah St. :lol:
Penn St.
@Southern Miss
Troy St. :lol:

3/4 at home and Troy St. and Utah St.????

Last years OOC schedule.........

Arizona St.
Troy St. :lol:
Utah St. :lol:
@ Penn St.

I guess you had nice rivalry going with Troy St. and Utah St. ASU and Penn St. were 2 tough OOC, I give you that.

Ok, lets see 3 years ago, the Nebraska OOC schedule......

Troy St. :lol:
ND
Rice :lol:

All 3 games at home. Guess that OOC schedule sure helped you getting into the NC game.

USC the last 3 years

AU
@ AU
@CO
Kansas St.
@Kansas St.
BYU
HAWAII
@ND
ND
@ND
San Jose St.

Only 1 easy opponent San Jose St. (but no cupcake), and how many tough places did USC play on the road. YIKES!!!! Nobody, NOBODY except maybe ND has played tougher OOC schedule than USC the last 3 years. I respect ND.

PLEASE DO NO QUESTION WHAT I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!

No, you should learn to read better. This was one of your statements:

"However, I do wish Nebraska would start playing a tougher OOC schedule."

Anyone with a clue would know when you made that statement, you were looking to bring up how "great" USC's ooc schedule is.

Moving past our out of conference schedule which is irrelevant in this particular thread, alot will have to do with Callahan's recruiting so as to fit his type of offensive structure. Although he was bagged this year and apparently caused all soughts of dramas at oakland amongst his players, he also took the same team to the superbowl last year as everbody knows so his coaching abilities more or less speak for themselves. Gaining repect from a group of college players will also be alot easier than he found in oakland last year and therefore eliminate any similiar type dramas from occurring in Lincoln. Will hopefully prove to be a positive move within the next couple of years- fingers crossed!

If they go 6-6 this year, and the team obviously gives up on him, will he call them the "third biggest losers" or the "new second biggest losers"??? I know this scenario probably wouldn't occur, but wouldn't it be funny.

Won't happen and wouldn't be funny. Nebraska hasn't finished below .500 for decades and it is not about to start now. Looking forward to meeting you guys in Norman this year though Black so I can reflect apon what occurred when we last met you guys in 01'.

wolf I would disagree, I think his bunch of overpaid, overage players quit on him before he quit on them. I think it is a huge improvement over Frank Solich and am looking forward to the change!

As a CU student and Raider fan there is nothing more that I would love to see, have Callahan destroy the Nebraska program like he did the Raiders this year. I haven't heard one Raider player say anything good about the guy. Hopefully this will hurt hi recruiting at NU. Anyway, go Buffs!

jerbeek, good to have some cornhusker support in this threadand i agree with your views. TMS, the coach can only be responsible for so much and at the end of the day it is the players who have to get it done on the field to win a football game. Obviously the player-coach relationship has a lot to do with it but to solely blame Callahan for the bad season is strictly from a view of an angry raiders supporter following a pathetic year. Keep your head up, there's always next season. Callahan's proven his abilities in past years so there's no reason why he can't turn the Nebraska program around.

as far as the recruiting question, i think way behind 3 defections this week from an already small group i dont know if it would have any effect next season but for sure in 2-4 yrs now they change the type of offensive player they are going for, which eventually will be a plus but probably not immediately this damaged recruiting year in a way gives callaghan an extended honeymoon i feel he wont get much time before the faithful lose patience as i feel the rank and file fan here was ignored by Pederson(god complex) and if things stay sour they will turn on his boy since they cant turn on him imo
