Awesome video. Doc, you seem to be one of the most knowledgable car geeks on here, what do you think of the new Z? Hoping to buy one this summer once I get the house buying behind me, wondering what the hobbyists and folks who know their chit think of it.

phil,

IMHO the new Z is a great car. Are you thinking of driving it all year or just in the summer/spring?

I have been street racing for over 9 years now, but I mainly race at the track now (safer). Most of the modifications on my car have been done by myself, and I do recommend that one try performing basic maintenance on their car. Not only will it save you money, but if you ever get stuck on the road, you might be able to get yourself back on the road with a little knowledge of the basics. Definitely the hardest part about mechanics is getting the engine out of an LT1, but with some patience it is achievable. Reply to my above question and I'll hook you up with some great info.

I'll be driving it all year round. DC just doesnt get snow that much, maybe a few dustings a year. From recommendations I've read, I am thinking about getting a set of Blizzaks in case it gets too bad, and replacing the stock 18s for the rest of the year. I have never tracked a car before and probably wont with this one either. I wont be spending too much time moding it, except for real minor things that I could do by myself.

:yup :yup

Yeah, I figured from the look of the sky and the scenery that was Texas. I gotta let my buddy and his ZR1 look at that clip. He'll get a kick out of it, esp. since he knows about eating up tires. ;)

Phil,

blizzaks are the best if not the 2nd best snow tires to purchase for winter use. But I'm not sure if it's necessary given the minimal snowfall in your area. But if you like to be on the safe side for a minimal cost......

Make sure (even though the dealer does tell you that it already has been undercoated) that your Undercoat your car. But, ask your dealer if you do get it undercoated if that would void your warranty, if it does, forget about it. last thing I want to see is your car starting to rust after 3-4 years (snow and salt).

There are some free mods that you could do on your car, it would take about 10 minutes and give you about 10 horses. If I were you ( again, ask your dealer if it would void the warranty) would be to get an after market exhaust system. I have a friend who has a performance shop install a Greddy exhaust system, and boy does it ever sound sweet.

Here are several great forums for the 350Z...

Let me know if you do decide to purchase it. (btw, get the price lowered, negotiate like a MOFO);)

Thanks Doc, appreciate all the advice. Yeah I would definitely be looking at a price between invoice and MSRP, have been using cars.com and the forums at my350z.com for pricing advice. They're the guys who recommended the Blizzaks, and even though it doesnt snow much around here, yeah I guess better safe than sorry is a good motto.

Its funny you say that about the undercoating though, for some reason I have always heard, never have the dealer rustproof or undercoat your car, I thought they were the two biggest ripoffs/surcharges out there. If its a minimal cost though it is probably worth it.

My first order of business will be upgrading the soundsystem as I understand the stock system in the Z is for shite.
