Line opened up at

Patriots -6.5 (-260)

Now Patriots -7, but (-230) ? Ive never seen this kind of move before

Looks to me like someone clobbered Panthers moneyline, while someone whacked Pats -6.5. 6 figure bets if you ask me!

It tells me Carolina is the play. all the Joe blows out there saw 6.5 and jumped. RIght now I would ahve to say i think NE wins but I am likley to take the points. NE has won what, 1 or 2 games in this streak by more than 7? They are also having to settle for alot of fgs and Carolina defense is playing better than what NE has seen lately.

In his book "Sports Betting 101", author Arne K. Lang has a separate chapter discussing the best value in the Super Bowl in which he discussess this phenomenon. He states that betting the favorite on the moneyline is often the best value. He believes this occurs because there are so many novice bettors who want more than 10-11 odds and therefore play the underdog moneyline for more return on their dollar. The bookies adjust for this lopsided action and you frequently end up with value on the favorite ML. Hope this helps.
