You know what really puzzles me about this team? How can Chris Weinke go from starting QB in his first year, experiences bump and bruises, but some success, to being completely eliminated from the teams future? Why would you even bring in a guy like Rodney Peete? This guy will win a few games for you this year. What will he do for you in the future? Absolutely nothing. This guy is a wash. Develop some young talent, give Randy Fasani a shot, or Chris Weinke. Anyways. This team really focused on defense last year. I'm surprised they did so well because I know very few of the guys on their defense. To be honest, in this situation I don't think its the players, I think its the coaches and the system that is being implemented that makes this defense look pretty damn good. Nonetheless it doesn't hurt having guys like Mike Rucker, Julius Peppers, Dan Morgan and Mike 'after dinner' Minter on your team. I don't think this team should draft on defense, but at the same time I'm not really sure where they should draft. They brought in Stephen Davis who solves one of their biggest problems of last year. They brought in Kevin Dyson, and Ricky Proehl who will complement Muhsin Muhammed nicely, but I think the problem still remains at QB. A very smart decision for this team would be to get a QB in the first or second round. The reasonning behind this is it will (a) force a competition for the starting job, which Peete should win (b) give the younger QB a mentor as well as time to learn opposed to being thrown into the fire right away. Make no mistake about it, Rodney Peete is not taking this team to the promise land. I'm not sure if he can even take this team to Circle K for some slurpy's after the game on the ammount of money he is making, but he is good for MAYBE one or two more years. This team needs a future, and with no QB behind Rodney, they don't have one.

I forgot about Jake Del-wash....

He's had a chance to play before, and hasn't done much. Maybe a change of scenery will help him out, but I doubt it.

Don't they still have Wesley Walls?

I think they have adequate help at WR after signing Dyson and Proehl in addition to having Muhammed and Steve Smith, and possibly Isaac Byrd.

Walls was released on Feb 26th for salary cap reasons; they may try and sign later but at pay cut and doubt Walls will go for that

Dyson would be a great receiver along Mussin if they stay healthy but both of them are injury prone. Proehl is a good 3rd option and position receiver. Just would hope for some one to open the down-field to open the holes for S davis which will be the offense. They just signed a LB so not sure what they plan on doing; their are a couple good TE in the draft. One other thing could use a good kicker; just not sure if any available.

Well dug this up to ease my pain. If back in April you would have told me the Panthers would be in the super bowl I would have put you in a nut house!!

Delhomme was an unbelievable signing along with Stephen Davis. Steve Smith has a chance to be a superstar. Our defense is decent but need some cover corners Manning stepped up during the year and has great potential. Cousins and Howard aren't that great an above average wr can get open on them.

All in all it was a great year,(just hate to see it end like this) Some will blame Fox for coaching decisions but look at it like this no team could move the ball in the 1st or 3rd quarters. New England just scored but Fox thought his D could step up like they did the entire 3rd quarter and then a fg ties it up. Hindsight makes it easier to make that decision. But what be said if Carolina stops New england and can only get to the 20 and loses 21-17.

I just hope it isn't 7 years before we get in the playoffs again and please no more 1-15 years it is tuff on a fan way up here in Nebraska

Crazy!

I forgot about this post. Let's see if I can dig up the preview I did.

Good to look back at it and see.

Hey Dave,

Just wanted to say "nice work" on that pre-season writeup. You nailed this team pretty nicely.

Hope you played that "over" you were leaning towards.
