You know what really puzzles me about this team? How can Chris Weinke go from starting QB in his first year, experiences bump and bruises, but some success, to being completely eliminated from the teams future? Why would you even bring in a guy like Rodney Peete? This guy will win a few games for you this year. What will he do for you in the future? Absolutely nothing. This guy is a wash. Develop some young talent, give Randy Fasani a shot, or Chris Weinke. Anyways. This team really focused on defense last year. I'm surprised they did so well because I know very few of the guys on their defense. To be honest, in this situation I don't think its the players, I think its the coaches and the system that is being implemented that makes this defense look pretty damn good. Nonetheless it doesn't hurt having guys like Mike Rucker, Julius Peppers, Dan Morgan and Mike 'after dinner' Minter on your team. I don't think this team should draft on defense, but at the same time I'm not really sure where they should draft. They brought in Stephen Davis who solves one of their biggest problems of last year. They brought in Kevin Dyson, and Ricky Proehl who will complement Muhsin Muhammed nicely, but I think the problem still remains at QB. A very smart decision for this team would be to get a QB in the first or second round. The reasonning behind this is it will (a) force a competition for the starting job, which Peete should win (b) give the younger QB a mentor as well as time to learn opposed to being thrown into the fire right away. Make no mistake about it, Rodney Peete is not taking this team to the promise land. I'm not sure if he can even take this team to Circle K for some slurpy's after the game on the ammount of money he is making, but he is good for MAYBE one or two more years. This team needs a future, and with no QB behind Rodney, they don't have one.
