I was just givin a pc this thing only boots up in safe mode, I have a boot up disc and a windows 98 2nd ed, however he doesnt have any discs for the sound and any other hardware, how can I check whats in this thing and get the right drivers and such, or fix it from safe mode, Im new at this but know how to reformat, so easy on the vernacular.

Use Tom's Root Boot (bootable Linux on a single floppy) or Knoppix (bootable Linux on CD) and the startup should identify all of the hardware you have:

You can also reformat it and boot it up with all the defaults. Start from there, it will tell you what it can't find drivers for. By looking at the cards, you should be able to tell the make and model. Then you can look them up on the Net.
