I don't fit with any of these bozos.

I'm very Republican when it comes to the death penalty, homeland security and health care.

I'm very Democrat when it comes to abortion, religion and gun control.

Somewhat split amongst the others.

Where's the candidate for me!?

There is no one for you guys. That's the biggest problem with the US government. There's no chance for a third party to succeed, but if we were to have a true representative govt, we would need at least five. It's sad, but there is nothing we can do about it.

seymour,

Glad to see I'm not alone. By chance, have you ever been told you fit into a certain political profile? I'm trying to figure out what the heck I am (how to characterize my views).

bjfinste,

I had this very discussion with family members around the table this past week. Our system (constitution, parties, etc.) is set up to make it very difficult for change. That's supposedly how the "forefathers" intended, and that works well. But where it bogs us down a bit is the two-party system. Is that why so few people vote? Certainly I don't want a free-for-all (see Italy's 50+-party mess), but another couple of parties that are taken seriously (which the Independent never is) may help(?). It's so frustrating.

ceciol & seymour,

you can count me in with being aligned with your views.

you have to decide what is most important issue in this years election for you.

for years, the #1 issue for me in most elections was social issues & my views were aligned with the dems.. but then watching carter blunder along in 1976, i voted for reagan in 1980 & 1984 & bush senior in 1988, only because the dems nominated dukakis in 88, & i thought he was similar to carter. i voted for clinton in 92 & 96 & gore in 2000.
but after 9/11 & reading & following security & defense issues, i was grateful that gore did not win. now the #1 issue for me & my family is national security. i think that bush & co. are taking the necessary steps to fight terror & that the democrats that are running for president don't have a clue on what to do. so i will be voting for bush, without any hesitation.
you should decide what issue(s) are the most important for you & then decide who would best deal with those issues. there will never be a candidate that agrees with you on all issues, but it is important that we all voice our opinions.

One of the best posts on this board yet, AR. There are plenty of things that Bush does that I don't agree with, but I agree that our national security is top priority right now and it is best in his hands (out of the choices). Next on the slate for me is the economy. I don't think either side has a grip on reality when it comes to this, so it is a wash in my book.

I will almost certainly be voting for Bush. If it is Kerry on the Dem ticket, it will definitely be Bush. Some of the other candidates are better in my book than him.

Good post, AR.

With security first on my mind, that is why I indicated that Bush was likely my man (in the other thread, for those of you who haven't seen).

I've been OK with what's gone on in his tenure (in the sense that I can't imagine anyone else doing any better at this point).

(His religious fervor is making me batty, though  )
