I'm leaning hard on taking UNLV +10 against Mizzou. I think these 2 teams have similar styles of play. Just wanted to get your thoughts here. Thanks!

Hey Monk......I know you werent asking my opinion, but I read all of the newspapers from Columbia and Las Vegas because I really wanted to take UNLV here. My power rankings have this game as Mizzou -4.

I just cant do it though....too many unanswered questions.....Mizzou just lost their 6th man for the year Kleiza, and Randy Pulley was dismissed from the team.....not to mention the other off court issues that have nagged Mizzou all year.

I also read that UNLV team members were pissed at each other recently. Odell Blankson just went off on the team saying that he doesnt like them off-court, etc. Both teams are full of poor character players IMO.

9 Points is a lot....but I just cant take a chance with these Jeckel and Hyde teams.

Hope that helps a little until Fletch gives us the local feel.

UNLV at *Missouri (Day Game)...?Big game? for HC Charlie Spoonhour & UNLV; ?little game? for favored Missouri, trying to keep afloat in rugged Big XII wars. Spoonhour, of course, coached for years at SW Missouri State and then Saint Louis. And his latest collection of athletic jucos, transfers & redshirts figures to give the poorly-balanced Tigers fits. 6-8, 250 Rebel C J. Edwards (12 pts., 10 rebs., only 2 fouls) held his own last week visiting BYU?s 6-11 C Araujo and should keep Mizzou C A. Johnson from dominating game. When that happens, Tiger Gs usually have a tough time keeping up. Quick, aggressive UNLV 11-4 last 15 as dog. Surprise in store?

DATE & TIME: Sunday, February 15th, 3:30 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Hearnes Center (13,545) -- Columbia, Missouri. Television: ABC. Home Record: UNLV 9-3, Missouri 7-3. Away Record: UNLV 3-5, Missouri 3-5. Neutral Record: UNLV 0-0, Missouri 0-2. Conference Record: UNLV 3-5, Missouri 5-5. Series Record: Missouri leads, 2-1.

GAME NOTES: A couple of teams concluding their non-conference schedules do battle from the Hearnes Center today, as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels of the Mountain West Conference take on the Missouri Tigers of the Big 12. The Rebels enter the contest trying to salvage the final game of a three-game road swing which saw the team drop decisions to BYU (64-61) and most recently Utah (70-56) on Monday. The losses put the squad two-games under. 500 in MWC action and on the road at 3-5. UNLV is still a respectable 12-8 overall, but is has lost its last three road tilts. As for Missouri, it comes into the game on a high note, as it outlasted Colorado, 77-65, on Tuesday. The win put an end to a brief two-game slide and improved the squad to an even 10-10 overall and 5-5 in the Big 12. The win also pushed the Tigers to 7-3 at the Hearnes Center, where they have gone 20-4 over the past two years. Missouri leads the all-time series with UNLV, 2-1, but the Rebels won the last meeting between the two schools, 101-94, in 1993.

The Rebels shot a dismal 35.4 percent from the field and an even worse 29.4 percent from behind the arc in their 14-point setback to Utah. UNLV was also outscored at the foul line 19-13 and absolutely dominated on the boards, 46-21. The one area that the Rebels' excelled in was protecting the ball, as they committed just seven turnovers in the contest. Although Odartey Blankson had his string of five consecutive double-doubles snapped, he still paced UNLV in defeat with 13 points and five boards. Romel Beck and J.K. Edwards each tallied 11 points in the losing effort. On the year, the Rebels are led by Blankson, who is one of the few players in the nation averaging a double- double with 16.8 ppg and 10.4 rpg. He has registered 13 double-doubles this season and is also making 50.9 percent of his total shots. Beck is adding 13.6 ppg, while Edwards is turning in 13.2 ppg off of a scorching 61.9 percent shooting from the field. As a team, UNLV is producing a healthy 73.3 ppg behind 46.9 percent shooting from the floor.

Travon Bryant lead five double-figure scorers with an all around performance of 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the Tigers' 12-point victory over Colorado. Arthur Johnson tallied 16 points, while Jason Conley netted 12 points in just 19 minutes of action off the bench. Thomas Gardner added 11 points and six boards, and Rickey Paulding chipped in 10 points in the victory. Both teams shot well in the contest, as Missouri connected on 45.9 percent from the floor and Colorado 46.8 percent. The Tigers also converted 12-of-14 free-throw attempts, while outscoring Colorado in the paint 34-20. Missouri lost the battle on the boards, 36-31, which is a surprise considering its outrebounding its opponents this season by 5.3 rpg. The team is also producing a respectable 72.2 ppg with three players averaging in double figures. Paulding leads the Tigers in scoring at 15.2 ppg and is also grabbing 4.3 rpg. Johnson is second in scoring (13.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg), while Bryant follows with 11.2 ppg and 6.4 rpg.

Both teams are getting a much needed rest from league play and that should make for an exciting and relaxed game today. Missouri has played well at home this season and that should give it enough of an edge to pick up the victory over the Rebels.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Missouri 77, UNLV 70

The Big 12 meets the Mountain West! There should be a lot of points, as UNLV likes to run (47% shooting) and they allow 74.8 ppg on the road, while Missouri allows 71 ppg. UNLV (12-8 SU, 10-7 ATS) is led by 6?-7? junior Odartey Blankson (17 ppg, 52% FGs, 10 rpg), 6?-8? sophomore Louis Amundson (5 rpg) and 6?-7? Romel Beck (14 ppg) up front. They are 3-5 SU/4-4 ATS on the road where they average 74.4 ppg while giving up 74.8 ppg. Missouri (10-10) is 7-4 SU/3-4 ATS at home led by 6'-9" Arthur Johnson (13 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6'-9" senior Travon Bryant. Missouri has struggled this season, but has the frontcourt to score on UNLV's finesse running attack. This is also the second straight home game for Missouri, and the third straight road game for UNLV.

MISSOURI 75 - Unlv 72?Fast-paced UNLV (75 ppg) owns the firepower to trade whole way with Mizzou squad that suffers too-frequent defensive lapses. And this intersectional a homecoming of sorts for venerable Reb mentor Spoonhour, who was HC at SW Missouri St. and Saint Louis for much of his long career. 02-DNP REGIONAL TV?ABC
