the land of confusion
WOOO-HOOO!!! Footy is finally back starting this Friday night. About bloody time too. I've been hangin' for this!! :D

Time for the down under crew to climb out of the woodwork with some thoughts.....

I've been out to a few Kangaroos training days and am confident of a fairly good showing over the next few weeks. We've got some impressive youngsters that look ready to take it to the next level. I would think that we'll roll Melbourne on Saturday up at Canberra but I'm not expecting anything better than $1.60 at best.

Teams for all games will be out in the next couple of days. Alot of stars to be rested at various clubs so time to look for the value picks and futures. Small plays only.

MrC, Bombercoops, Beasty and pumpkin..........wake up and give us your thoughts guys??

Hey PAWA.....You beat me to it! :D

Just popped in to get a thread started myself.

Did a bit of looking around last night...

In the past books have only priced up these games on the day of the game...usually only 8 or so hours before kickoff. And it pays to keep checking (if you have the time of course!). I remember a couple of years ago a Doggies/Port game, the odds came out with the Dogs as 11 point fav's! Only a matter of half an hour later they were (rightly!) 16 point dogs!!
Books will make mistakes in these games.

Definately agree that Kanga's look good winners, but as you say the price will be interesting.

Winners I see....West Coast will be too strong for Collingwood at home...Hopefully the Pie fans will give us a decent price on WC. Would love to get 1.80! :p

Freo to beat Essendon in Darwin. Again, hoping for a decent price. Essendon's pre-season record is dismal at best! Sheedy simply doesn't care about these games and loves trying players in different positions. Freo will be going out to win to keep up last years momentum. 1.70+ would be great!

Sydney over Carlton, but expecting about 1.30.

Possible upset of the week.....Geelong over Port. Port have some HUGE injury worries.

*********
"Eleven players were rested because of slight injuries or modified training programs. They were Chad and Kane Cornes, Stuart Dew, Brett Ebert, Damien Hardwick, Roger James, Adam Kingsley, Jarrad Schofield, Toby Thurstans, Darryl Wakelin and Michael Wilson.

Williams said the Cornes brothers, Kingsley, Thurstans, Wakelin and Wilson would probably be ready for the trip to Cairns."

"Whilst declaring that the Power was approaching the pre-season games seriously, Bishop hinted that a number of players could be playing in unfamiliar positions, as the coaching staff look to get the right mix once the season begins.

?I?m sure you?ll see guys in different positions that you?re not accustomed to, at this stage of the year it?s a trial period. It?s important to try a few things so that once the season starts you?re ready to go,? he said."

*********

King out for Geelong and they are saying they will play some young players...but that might be a good thing in Cairns in 30+ degree heat.

The Western Bulldogs have demonstrated their absolute commitment to the Wizard Home Loans Cup by selecting a strong squad to play Richmond at Telstra Dome on Friday night.

The Tigers, however, will be without Matthew Richardson, who starred in the intra-club match last Friday, and skipper
Wayne Campbell who is not quite ready to resume after last season's Achilles tendon surgery.

According to a Richmond spokesman, Richardson is suffering from 'general soreness'.

For the Bulldogs, only skipper Chris Grant, who is still working his way back to full fitness following last year?s knee surgery, Daniel Giansiracusa (quad), Mitchell Hahn (shoulder) and Jordan McMahon (knee) are missing from a full strength squad.

Former Hawk Lochlan Veale could also not be considered because of a groin complaint.

But there will be plenty of interest as the first and fourth selections at last year?s National AFL draft, Adam Cooney and Farren Ray make their official debuts for the club, along with former Hawthorn forward Jade Rawlings, the first big name recruit signed by the club for many years.

Also on show for the first time will be former Port Adelaide big man Adam Morgan, former Geelong ruckman Peter Street and defender Steven Koops, who crossed from Fremantle at the end of last season.

The Tigers are expect to name a captain for the match on Thursday from the club's leadership group - Andrew Kellaway, Kane Johnson, Greg Stafford, Mark Chaffey, Greg Tivendale and Brad Ottens.

Western Bulldogs squad: Daniel Bandy, Scott Bassett, Shane Birss, Patrick Bowden, Matthew Boyd, Adam Cooney, Daniel Cross, Luke Darcy, Nathan Eagleton, Cameron Faulkner, Simon Garlick, Lindsay Gilbee, Ryan Hargrave, Brian Harris, Ben Harrison, Brad Johnson, Steven Koops, Kieran McGuiness, Adam Morgan, Robert Murphy, Sam Power, Jade Rawlings, Farren Ray, Matthew Robbins, Wayde Skipper, Rohan Smith, Peter Street, Scott West.

Richmond squad: Brad Ottens, Mark Chaffey, Nathan Brown, Kayne Pettifer, Greg Stafford, Justin Blumfield, Aaron Fiora, Ben Marsh, Shane Morrison, David Rodan, Tim Fleming, Ray Hall, Shane Tuck, Thomas Roach, Mark Coughlan, Jay Schulz, Bill Nichols, Kane Johnson, Luke Weller, Chris Hyde, Greg Tivendale, Simon Fletcher, Chris Newman, Ty Zantuck, Andrew Kellaway, Kelvin Moore, Marc Dragicevic, Adam Houlihan.

Alright, as you said pawa, great to see the REAL footy season about to crank back up again. Get's the blood boiling just thinking about it. As black said, have been away for the past few days and glad to see you guys straight in to the action for this week's preseason opener. Not going to engage in the preseason myself as I am unable to access any lines or odds at the book I am betting with- will have to wait for the opening round. But anyway, agree that sheeds doesn't care too much about the preseason comp as he is always playing youngsters and moving his players around the field in order to prepare for the season opener. Freo's attitude will be more assertive. Haven't had too much of a chance to look through all the games and the line ups for this weekend but by the look of it, you guys are on top of everything. Good luck pawa and christo, to your roos and dogs respectively for the season and hopefully our teams will all be a part of the finals action come september. On a personal note, looking forward to seeing how murphy performs for the dons, especially when they play the 'old dark navy blues'. Glad to see everyone back on board.
