kent state (-13) over marshall

double digit chalk not really my style, but its justified here. marshall struggles in a BIG way at kent. its funny- the herd will play kent down to the wire in huntington every single year...... but when they go to kent, the flashes just beat the shit out of them.

*kent state coming in off a string of non-covers keeps this line under 15.

*marshall is a team that has never handled success well. you would think their big overtime win at home vs western michigan on sunday would give them momentum- but they have always been a shit team on the road and can only compete with the elite teams when theyre at home

*marshall giving up way to many points on the road in conference play. kent is a team that will bury you if you try and play from behind.

*kent got out of the gate incredibly slow on saturday, spotting bowling green a 16-2 lead. flashes normally one of the best mid-major home teams in the country; dont see that kind of flat start happening their next game out as well

i think kent makes a statement here after two consecutive subpar performances at home. marshall is the perfect elixir for the flashes, as ksu has dominated the herd in the maac center

================
as far as some other games go:

really want to play portland over gonzaga, as zags could be flat after clinching the wcc title in their showdown with st.marys saturday night. but that rebounding edge scares me. still, portland continues to play gonzaga well in the last few meetings. zags also in a sandwich spot: st.marys- portland - bracket buster game vs. tulsa.

miami, ohio could exact some revenge on ohio as well tomorrow. bobcats were playing from behind the whole way in the first meeting before getting a late spurt to send it into OT and won it. but miami could pick apart the young cats in oxford. rivalry game, but a mismatch imo. ohio has been spotting teams big leads on the road lately. that wont fly vs the disciplined, methodical redhawks

You would have to go back to 1968 to see the last time that the Herd walk away a winner at Kent. That was before the national guard came in and killed four on this beautiful campus about 5 miles from my home.

If any team in the MAC struggles as much as the Zips on the road it would be the Herd.Their last three on the road were pathetic:

Jan 31 at BOWLING GREEN Bowling Green, L, 73-88
Feb 2 at AKRON Akron, OH L, 69-85
Feb 7 at BUFFALO Buffalo, L, 58-77

I saw the Herd here and came away very unimpressed. In fact , I would say that they were nearly the poorest team that I have observed in the JAR this season. Hamilton is an overrated point guard with a horrible jumper. Black is a stud, but sometimes struggles on the road as was demonstrated by his four point performance here. Patton looks like he will be a pretty good big man, but I suspect that Edwards will keep him in check tonight. The only other concern I would have would be Dawn tossing in few 3s for the Herd.

Also like the fact that Marshall is off of the huge OT upset of Western on Sunday, and that they are a bit thin right now with backup center Armpalu nursing a spraind ankle. 6th man Bunch is also limited by the same injury, though he did get some minutes vs. Western.

I would agree that Kent appears to be a solid choice tonight as long as Black does not come up with a monster game which does not appear to be plausible against a solid Kent defense on the road.

would have to agree with almost everything you said. when ive seen marshall in person, i was a little surprised by how decent patton is. i figured hed be a stiff but hes more active than i thought. black is a stock market player for sure. great games followed by no-shows. who knows which black will show tonight. but like you said, marshalls road defense is just non-existent. and that wont fly in kent. kent does a good job defending the 3, so dawn shouldnt be too big a concern. kent does have to keep anderson off the glass. doesnt play a ton, but active when he is in there.

we'll see how it goes.

ill bite on this 2h play:

miami,ohio (-7.5) over ohio university

i dont think the young bobcats will be able to sustain this play in the 2h on the road. veteran miami group should seize control of the game in the 2h and get the win and 2h cover.

Kent was just too damn easy tonight. I had one of my better nights in the MAC as I also was on OU and the Zips as well.

Good luck on your west coast total a bit later.
