4 consecutive broom days. 13 of L14 totals. freezer and cold spell right around the corner. a little 'faux pessimism' never hurts ;)

ironically, taking the same approach as i did wednesday. one total and another rare double-digit chalk:

loyola-chicago/cleveland state over 148.5
arizona (-14) over washington

add: oregon 2h (-115) over california

usf/pepperdine is a very very tough game. pepperdine needs this win to keep pace for the #2 seed in the wcc tourney. but theyre always an enigma on the road. san fran beat pepperdine pretty soundly in malibu a few weeks ago though.

as for wsu/ill-chi, it looks like uic has put it all together. they were the preseason favorite in the conference and for awhile, they were sub-.500 in the conference but then they just started playing to their potential and have since ripped off 8 in a row and 9 of L10. last loss was actually to wright state in dayton (61-60). uic a very tough team at home. that being said, wsu has proven they can hang with anyone in the conference except milwaukee.

cant say i have any real opinion on either game. gun to my head id say pepperdine in the 1st one, but for as much as i follow the horizon i cant give a true lean either way- its that tough a game

kdogg:

no- i cant say that i like csu at all tonight. their effort was so embarrassing vs eastern michigan in their home finale that i think theyre just looking forward to the horizon tourney. garland was really pissed after the emu game, so MAYBE they come out with some more intensity, but i wouldnt bet on it. they were a total joke on saturday. and in the first meeting, loyola got whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted on the cleveland state defense.

i think garlands quotes from the press conference after the game speak volumes:

On the lack of focus and effort by his team: "I'm not pleased with the lack of focus or effort tonight. It was an embarrassment to the program, to the community and to the university, and it is unacceptable. We got off to a quick start, but it was nothing but fool's gold. When it came down to it, we who was more physical, we weren't physical. They outhustled us on loose balls and for position on the offensive glass. On the other side, we made no effort to get on the offensive glass ourselves."

On why he had Omari Westley run out the clock at the end of the game (with 0:38 seconds left in the game, he had westley dribble the entire 35 second shot clock out and turn the ball over with 0:03): "The game was over at that point. What was the point if we took another shot, what difference would that have made on the outcome of the game? How, with 29 seconds left, are we going to make up a 20-some point deficit? We didn't have the opportunity to make up that deficit at that point in the game. Of course I'm angry about it, because I care about the program. Should I be in here laughing? When you care about something, if something happens to your child, would you be happy about it?"

arizona
*zona playing with revenge and at home- where theyve dominated teams lately. he cats are vulnerable on the road, but basically untouchable at home.
*washington already a poor defensive team, and traveling cross-country (to ncstate on sunday) and back to arizona in revenger. you can try and run with arizona on their own floor and you can stick with em for a bit, but after awhile theyll run you right out of the gym (see: ucla at arizona 2 weeks ago) (see: southern cal at arizona 2 weeks ago). playing a run and gun pace in arizona is a recipe for disaster for the opposition.

csu/loyola
*stats probably favor an under, but cleveland state's effort on saturday has me convinced theyre "playing out the string" in conference play and just waiting until the conference tournament. theyve clinched the #9 spot in the horizon. for awhile, csu was trying to keep the game in the half-court but it wouldnt surprise me to see their final two games (vs loyola tonight and milwaukee on saturday) have 155-160+ points scored in each. first meeting this season in cleveland was a track meet with loyola winning 90-83. both teams premier players had huge games in the first meeting. omari wesley went for 30pts/13 rebs, jermaine robinson had 21. for the ramblers- they had three guys score 20+ points. these are the two worst teams in the horizon and in a meaningless game- i think this will have an up and down pace.

Hate to see you on Arizona as Washington is my top play tonight. Do you know the status of Stoudamire?

Arizona scoring leader Salim Stoudamire has been suspended indefinitely by coach Lute Olson and is not expected to play Thursday night for the 17th-ranked Wildcats against visiting Washington.

Stoudamire, a 6-foot-1 junior guard, was suspended Monday for conduct detrimental to the team, an Arizona official told SportsLine.com. Olson met the local media on Tuesday and never mentioned the suspension.

Olson is expected to address Stoudamire's status for Arizona's next game, Saturday against visiting Washington State, after Thursday night's game.

cooled off in a big way.
0-2

arizona play was terrible

2nd half of the csu/loyola game was comical. csu 39-37 at halftime and a breakneck pace.

.......and then cleveland state scores 20 points (yes, TWENTY) in the entire 2nd half.

total run was due to come to an end, but that 2h was strange (and annoying).

playing this one:

gonzaga 1st half (-18) over san diego.

san diego put a scare in the zags last meeting. i think gonzaga will lead comfortably by the 2nd media timeout. we'll see.
