yesterday's early plays continued to be cursed by bad mojo beats and finished 3-3-1. breaks finally started to even up on the night card, resulting in a 5-2 evening. after lunch, i'll be leaving for raleigh and the rbc to witness the annual gutting of the heels (a local tradition). before the pilgrimage, three plays for sunday:
san jose st +2: resisting the urge to make a large bet on this game, as i never like getting too heavily invested in bad teams, but this line baffles me. golden hurricane made me a boatload of pesos saturday night in honolulu, politely laying down in a thirty point loss to the 'bows. has tulsa quit? they've lost the last 8 and 10 of their last 11, going 2-8-1 ats in that span. they're 1-12 s/u, 3-7-1 ats on the road; 0-8 s/u, 0-7-1 ats in confernece on the road. the thirty point loss @ hawaii saturday was their worst of the season. now, 48 hours later, in as situation that screams island hangover, they are road favs in san jose? on their end, san jose, after playing a very good rice team down to the wire on saturday, are now 4-2 ats in february. spartans have really picked up their defense at home during that span - rice shot 17/41 in san jose, la tech was 15/47, smu 19/47. this is also san jose's last home game of the season (and last realistic chance for a win). gotta go with the home dog here.
nc state -4- and over 152: mandatory pilgrimage play on this one. tarheel prima donna blue chip micky d all american types just can't understand why the acc doesn't lay down at their feet. after all, are they not the team that could get their coach fired because he yelled and talked ugly to them by threatening to take their ball and go play elsewhere? alas, they just don't get it - to win on the road in the acc you have to play - what's that word? - DEFENSE. baby blues are too enamored with their offensive talents to sap their energy guarding someone outside of the dean dome. result - 1-5 s/u and ats on the acc road; opponents shooting %'s in those games: 45.8% fg, 39.8% treys. to his credit, coach williams knows exactly where the shorcomings lie, but these are not his players, and he knows they are not inclined to listen to anyone on the subject at this point. after all, they have already demonstrated that they are bigger than the program by getting one of the most loyal and well-liked alums of all time fired because he constantly ragged them about their defense (or lack thereof). they can't pull off that kind of coup with roy, but roy is content to sit back and wait for felton, mccants and may to bolt blue heaven this summer for the place where they all belong - the land of the boorish, childish, overpaid, undermotivated nba superstars.
the above is merely the editorial opinion of the author, and in no way is intended to agitate the delicate sensibilities of the blush-sippin', brie-munchin' tarheel faithful. hey, how 'bout those dean years? those were the days, huh?
fla state +6: unclear how many acc heavyweights seminoles have to torch in tallahassee before the linemakers and bettors catch on. the last two duke teams to play here (both better than the current edition btw) know the deal. any duke win will here will be a good one.
glta (except the baby blues). sorry, can't help myself - years of indoctrination. ABC!
