not a bad deal at all. he didn't break the bank probably could have gotten more. i don't think it was about the money it is about winning is why this deal went thru. they can now remove the franchise tag and i believe it frees up nearly 10 million in cap room for the colts. if he would have held out longer they would have been toast in the up coming season. would have lost several players and not get anything in return.

:shrug: Has no one in the NFL learned? This really puts the pressure on the Colts to win in the next few years. The contract is backloaded, and if Indy doesn't achieve success very soon, this will severely cripple them over the life of the contract. They did restructure due to constraints they would have had this year (was legit talk about parting ways w/Harrisson or James). There is also about $19 mil in incentives involved. Call me a homer...but after the Pats won the SB, there was a lot of chatter by these talking heads about running their team the way NE does...don't overpay, if the player commands a big salary number, either restructure, or...adios). :shrug:

disagree here. are you telling me donovan mcnabb is worth more than manning i don't think so but these contracts are very close to each other. also mannings contract can be restructured later on down the road. I still believe if comes between winning and money manning will give up some coin later on to get a player they need to make them better if that problem occurs.

I understand your point. I think he is worth more than McNabb. My point was more that it will be inevitable for Manning to have to restructure AGAIN with this albatross of a cap #.......

ESPN.com....For the first five years of the contract, Manning will have a cap number at roughly 10 percent of the cap, and roster bonuses in the contract give the team the ability to turn them into signing bonuses to free up cap room in future years.

Therefore, after that, the contract will be blown up, like I had mentioned before....very backheavy. It is certainly very hard to tell what will happen here. Say they win after the 5th year of Manning's contract, though. And for arguments sake he was the MVP, and carried them through the playoffs. I think asking him to restructure would be very difficult to the organization. This is the same reason NE and Ty Law are in such a bind right now. Honestly...from the surface this deal looks really like poor judgement. Time will tell where the Colts organization goes in the next few years....Hell, he may be MVP the next 3 years, and be a bargain...so I guess it is unfair to have this argument now. We shall see.

read the details on this beast of a contract. they will have to restructure this deal by 2007. good for peyton, but i don't see how it is good for the colts overall. when will they lose other players over this ? when will jealousy creep in here ? not my problem- guess i shouldn't care. mcnabb certainly not worth the wad he is receiving !!!!

heh, i'm just jealous as my beloved are getting ready to let a qb who is 39, back from 2 shoulder surgeries, and a ridiculous 7mill contract play this year

Cohanick that was arguabley the most stupid, arrogant and completley unprovable statement ive ever heard...Please tell me what QB has a better chance as this stud Peyton who can view the field better than anybody else in the league, throw and aim with the best of them, and has a deep, extremley talented WR core that loves to play with him because htey all get touches....how can they no have a good chance to win it all with a few additions on defense...You southerners really amaze me sometimes

the colts still have done nothing to address their Defensive situation either which really sucks. Hopefully they can pick up something decent in the draft
