BALTIMORE ? A 12-year-old girl was beaten into a coma (search) by a group of other girls and women after she kissed the boyfriend of another girl on a dare, police said.

Three adult women and two teenage girls have been charged in the beating of Nicole Townes, who remained in a coma Wednesday more than a week after the attack at a Feb. 28 party.

"I have seen people beaten to death, but not a child and not for no apparent reason," Detective Donny Moses said. "This is a hideous story."

The attack happened after an unidentified boy, also 12, was dared to kiss Nicole. After the kiss, his 14-year-old girlfriend attacked Nicole, and others joined in, beating the girl for at least 30 minutes.

Monique Baldwin, 36, and Erin Baldwin, 19, were charged with attempted murder and assault, said Moses, who said he didn't know the relationship between the two. Kenya Keene, 25, was charged with assault and conspiracy to commit child abuse.

Two unidentified teens, ages 13 and 14, were also arrested, but Moses said he did not know the specific charges against them.

The adults are also accused of giving false statements about what happened, telling authorities Townes fell and hit her head on a wall.

I'm not a sociologist, and luckily I dont live in the worst and most dangerous area, but I truly feel for these people and a lot of the stuff goes on, there is absolutely ZERO regard for human life in some of these areas, it's absolutely sickening, I read the nypost online quite a bit since I dont subscribe, and I have come to tears a few times reading the news, usually just shake my head 20 times, but Im used to it, It's a shame, there is good that people do it just isn't reported all the time

Monique and Kenya? I've seen some white folks with the name Monique, but not Kenya. This kind of thing could have happened anywhere and that's the whole point, but I could see where some comments would come from. Not hard to deduce based on the names-call it stereotyping, profiling, whatever. If it was Jessica and Mandy or some shit, then perhaps the comments wouldn't be made. 1) One of the beaters was 36 years old? Are you kidding me? An adult doesn't have better judgment than that?

2) The beatings went on for at least 30 minutes? Doesn't a sense of humanity kick in at some point?

Sorry, I'm really not a practicing racist believe me. I hate skinheads and nazis but just lose my patience with the kind of inhuman behavior that seems more and more common among a certain segment of our society which I do not believe can be blamed on their being a victim of racism.

BUT you are absolutely right that spoiled brat white kids are doing totally insane stuff also though. I have an equally low opinion of them and think they should get the same justice as someone from the poorest segment of society.

I posted out of frustration and inappropriately without a doubt. I thought better of my initial post however and realized it was unfair. My re-wording was NOT intended as any kind of race "codeword".

I meant as culturally challenged to define someone who has no respect for the rights or even lives of other people and who doesn't have any value system or comprehension of how to live responsibly within a civilized social structure.
