The Big East Championship Game may be getting more and more familiar, but it sure isn't getting boring.

For the third straight year Connecticut will meet Pittsburgh for the crown in Madison Square Garden. The Huskies won two years ago, while the Panthers struck back last year.

Pitt beat BC 62-53 in their semifinal game, while UConn beat Villanova 84-67 in the nightcap.

Pitt is definitely playing for a possible #1 seed, while UConn may receive the same #2 win or lose they would may have had if they lost to Notre Dame in the quarters. While we'll never know if that is the case, Jim Calhoun, who played the last two games without Emeka Okafor, may wish he played without any of his starters.

Okafor sat out his second consecutive game against Villanova with back spasms, his status remains day to day. Charlie Villanueva turned his ankle early in the first half and had to leave after re-injuring it in the second half. Ben Gordon, who has picked up much of the slack in the Big East Player of the Year's absence, gave Calhoun a scare when he too went down early, but returned to score 29 points to lead the Huskies.

Pitt has won four straight since their loss to Syracuse and received balanced play from their entire starting five. Guards Carl Krauser and Julius Page have controlled the perimeter, while Chris Taft and Chevon Troutman dominated the interior and Jaron Brown has provided a consistent inside/outside punch.

If Okafor has to miss his third straight game and Villanueva is anything less than 100%, the Huskies will turn to Josh Boone who had 13 and five first-half blocks in the win over Villanova. Rashad Anderson had 19 and Taliek Brown chipped in with 11.

It will be the first time in the twenty-five year history of the Big East Tournament that two teams have met for the Championship in three consecutive years. The Panthers are only the second team to reach four straight Championship games, with Syracuse (86-90) as the other. This is UConn's sixth all-time Championship game which puts them in a tie with Georgetown in that category.

Sounds like CV is going to play Reply

He'll def. give it a go according to the trainer and CV- lots of times with big guys the ankle is really tough to walk around on at first then easier to move around after the initial shock. It was good to see him walking to the locker room under his own power. The other Conn Courant article has JC saying that his gut feeling is that Oak will play too but there is a chance that neither CV nor Oak will play. Just wait and see.... Either way it's been a joy watching the guys pick up the slack for one another with Oak out.

Initially when it happens fear kicks in especially... Reply

since this was the 2nd time for Charlie in the game. Problem is the swelling - he'll definately take the floor lets just hope he can be effective and not just give 5 fouls.
