2003-04 stats AI is shooting 38.7% and 28% treys and has most TOs per game since rookie year at 4.3

yet so many people defend him

I notice Tim Duncan came in off the bench with alacrity when they blew out Minny last night ... love to see all the talking heads come to AI's defense ... LOY was 76ers not to win 46 once Larry left ... AI counsumate professional loser, and hes one guy I will bash to kids, exemplifies everything non-team oriented a basketball player could bring to table ... He will play hard, I will give that but it's remarkable with his shooting % and disposition throughout his career he gets so much respect ... kinda intersting that AI's by far best one season shooting % at 46% was year he avg. least amount of points

ok, Im done ;)

How bad IS Iverson?
Posted: 11/30/02 12:20:42 pm

As one who believes Iverson is guilty of hurting the game (especially the American game), I look for evidence to the fact. Here is my latest discovery.

People's Evidence 1:

Last year Matt Harpring played for Philly. He played 81 games and averaged 31.4 minutes. He also averaged 11.8 points and took 838 shots. He has a career shooting percentage of 46.3.

People's Evidence 2:

Last year Iverson played 21 FEWER games and took 1669 shots - almost 100% more shots in 26% fewer games. His career shooting is 41.1%.

Sidebar:

As a coach, who the hell would YOU want shooting the ball?

Peoples Evidence 3:

This year Harpring plays for the Jazz. He is averaging FEWER minutes per game - 30.8 and scoring 17.5 ppg. 48% higher scoring. During Utah's six game winning streek Harpring has averaged 25.2 ppg. He broke his career high November 26 against the Clippers scoring 30 points. He broke it again the next game, November 29, against the Wolves scoring 33 points. What has been the difference?

We call Harpring to the stand:

Why is your scoring up this year?

"In Philly, everything was based on Allen Iverson, and if you play there, that's what you accept, Here, it's fun because if you make a cut, if you get open, you're getting the ball. I've had more
opportunities and shot attempts this year because [his teammates] are not biased about who they pass the ball to."

Did you get the ball much in Philly?

"A lot of times, I'd make cuts and they would go unnoticed, I'd never get the ball," Here (Utah), everyone has an equal chance to score. It's just who is open at the time."

But what was your role in Philly?

"Larry Brown tried to tell me, 'You're not a shooter. All I want you to do is rebound and defend. And then some games that would change, and all of a sudden I'd be a shooter. It varied, depending on the way Allen (Iverson) was playing.

What about in Utah where you have Stockton and Malone?

"That's what makes it even more fun, because you're playing with John [Stockton] and Karl,
two Hall of Famers, and they're as unselfish as anyone. The ego and stats don't get in the way."

Verdict:

Iverson does not make his teammates better, he makes them WORSE!

P.S. Hell, he even makes his coach WORSE!

I really feel sorry for Philly fans having to put up with the crap of Terrell Owens and Allen Iverson in the same city. Can you even imagine a bigger couple of clowns in one place at the same time.
