No doubt you have a great record and I normally follow you, but I just don't see ANY WAY St. Joe's competes in this one. The teams they have played thus far in the tourney were not the type to exploit their weaknesses. IMO, they have played a perfect set of teams in order to get them where they are today. Wake was yet another team that played right into their hands in a way that OSU will not even consider. Let's face it......tight, in-your-face, defense is not something that St. Joseph's is accustomed to. The shots will not be open like they were on Thursday. Many people may be fooled by this line, but I refuse to be duped by it. The only reason this is even less than 5 or 6 is the simple fact that St. Joe's is a #1 seed. Vegas has to sucker some people into taking the Hawks! I am sorry to say it, but there are very few teams that St. Joe's has played that had the overall team quickness and athleticism that these Cowboys do. OSU will stay with them defensively throughout the game and noone, not even the great Jameer, will be able to light this team up from the outside. On the other side of the ball, I just don't see St. Joseph's causing much disruption to OSU's tight, offensive gameplan. Compared to what Pitt provided, this may begin to look ridiculously easy, much like the Memphis game. Martelli will soon realize that Billy Packer was right about his team being a weak #1 and their glaring weaknesses in terms of rebounding and interior presence will soon become apparent to the entire nation. I was against my hometown Cowboys in their last outing, but that was honestly their toughest test. They got by that one with relative ease and I see this game being no more than a mere speed bump along their way to the Final Four. Lest we not forget the irony, here. The last time OSU went to the Final Four (1995) under Eddie Sutton, they beat UMASS (another A-10 school) in nowhere else but East Rutherford, NJ, where this game will be played. It's those things that make you go, hmmmmm....... I look for history to repeat itself tomorrow and the St. Joseph's Hawk will finally have reason to stop flapping its damn wings!

Good Luck to All,

-JC

i'm not the best capper by any stretch of the imagination, but the comment of St Joes not having any chance in this game is sort of ridiculous. this is the elite 8, isn't it? everyone was just saying 2 days ago they had no chance of beating wf. well, that game is over and they move on. first, let me make it clear, i think osu is a very good team, and yes, they can win this game. i think st joes will have a difficult time on defense, but osu will too. if carroll shoots as he did against wake, st joes has a VERY good chance of winning, but to me, he is the key. it's funny sometimes, defenses run schemes and defend the stars as best as they can, and it always depends on the one "other" guy to hit his shots. i say he'll hit em and st joes will win. they won't kill osu and they won't get killed. is this a team of destiny? maybe. but i'm not putting money on destiny, i'm putting it on the guard leadership of st joes and dead eye carroll.

it should/will be a good game, and if st joes loses, i hope they can see to it to only lose by 2.5 or less!!

good luck.

Yeah you are right, that opening statement was indeed out of line. This is a good St. Joe's team. If they played a different style of basketball I would agree that this Elite Eight game should be a tight one. What I should have said was that I see no way that they win this game. Sure they will compete and give it their best effort, but IMO this is just not a good matchup for them. As for them hitting 3's, they may hit their share, but OSU's perimeter defense will stifle them in the end. The way I see it, St. Joe's D cannot match OSU's O and St. Joe's O will be limited by OSU's strong D. That, to me, is a mismatch and something I am willing to wager on. Of course, I could always be wrong....it wouldn't be the first time, but I honestly see a game similar to their A-10 tourney game against Xavier. You think Xavier's defense had anything to do with all those missed jumpers by the Hawks? I sure do, and I am willing to bet they have major problems with this defense, too.

Good Luck to All,

carroll is the key for st.joe's to win/cover.
he has been on fire the pass couple games
hope he continues to drain his shots
should be an awesome game:D

well....all i have to say after that is WOW, what a game. carroll couldn't find the hoop all game until near the end to tie it up (he may have saved the cover).

one thing i will point out - had carroll been somewhat on, st joes would have won the game handily.

it's funny how people think a team will "easily" dominate another team. one thing you really cannot factor in, is heart. st joes several times got down by 5 and six points, only to bounce back and tie it up.

question. do nelson or west EVER look flustered? those two amaze me.

i probably watched them 6 or 7 times all year, and i can tell you this, west is now my favorite player in ncaa history. the reverse layup he made (not even sure when it was, late 1st half??), was great. no need to rush down the court for some ridiculous dunk. just make the correct play, use the rim as a shield and get 2 easy points.

loved the game. wish it ended differently. would give my $200 back to have st joes move on. congrats to those who stuck with the "little" school throughout the tourny.

Nice calls by thewinder and noall, I was way wrong in how I felt this game would go down tonight. St. Joe's D was very tough, something I didn't expect. They are definitely a gutty team and deserved more respect than they got after losing to Xavier in the A-10 tourney. I feel very fortunate that my Cowboys are moving on. Funny how you said you would take back your 200 for the Hawks to have won, likewise I don't even care about the 500 or so I lost on the Cowboys tonight. Once again, let me reiterate how dead wrong I was in my analysis. I have no problem admitting it. This game was a surprise to me, but what a great game!
