P.S. Pro190, if you really feel the need, go to Dr. Strangelove's thread - Women of madjacksports.com

The Nuns at my Catholic school never looked errrr, so I assume it is a moot question, your sexuality is celibacy :wall:

It is the ? they ask when screening a possible Donor::

Is it discriminatory, not a chance I say considering the possible consequences

1)Have you had sex with another man since 1977 :

You say any blood is OK as long as it is screened , well albeit a little personal the Question is part of the screening process and valid imo::

I'm not speaking for Fletcher but I believe he was saying "screening" in the context of the donor blood being scrutinized by laboratory testing, not just the responses to the questionnaire.

I still believe that the Red Cross may be discriminating against gay men. The basis for this belief is from these exclusions listed directly from The American Red Cross Website

HIV, AIDS
Those who are at increased risk for becoming infected with HIV are not eligible to donate blood. According to the Food and Drug Administration, you are at increased risk if:

you are a male who has had sex with another male since 1977, even once;
you have ever used a needle, even once, to take drugs or steroids that were not prescribed by a physician;
you have taken clotting factor concentrates for a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia;
you were born in or lived in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Niger, or Nigeria since 1977 (This requirement is related to concerns about HIV Group O. Learn more about HIV Group O.)
you have taken drugs or money in exchange for sex since 1977;
you have ever had a positive test for HIV virus;
you have symptoms of HIV infection including unexplained weight loss, night sweats, blue or purple spots on or under the skin, long-lasting white spots or unusual sores in your mouth, lumps in your neck, armpits, or groin that last more than a month, fever higher than 99 degrees that lasts more than 10 days, diarrhea lasting over a month, or persistent cough and shortness of breath;
Wait for 12 months after close contact with someone who is at an increased risk for HIV infection. This occurs when paying to have sex, as a result of rape, or when having sex with an IV drug user.

Please explain to me, an AIDS Certified RN, why it's ok for the last group to donate after waiting 12 months but an honest male who may have had one experimental encounter 20 years prior is barred forever?

simple math....

the gay population is infected at a much higher rate than the non-gay population

HIV and HCV are transmitted at a much higher rate during anal sex than vaginal sex

a woman who has anal sex with a man who had gay sex also should be disqualified IMO....

would that make you satisfied if that screening was on there to accompany everything?

yes i was talking about blood screeing , as far as test screen questions i think 1977 is pushing it, i really don't care who one wants to have sex with as long as the don't press it on me, i said i never slept with ladies of the night well like i am going to say yes to them none of their business as long as my blood screen is clean. i know a few ladies and guys who are gay does not keep them from being my friends and they don't act like flames, i doubut it very much that they would give blood if infected and knew it, also had a few friends die of aids from neddles and have did recreational vol work at rehab centers where a lot of people had aids and were gay, really did not bother me and i know they would never give blood or try and hurt anyone with tainted blood, it is a stupid question just like the one i lie about,but it is one they ask so i really have no opinion on it either way but if i needed blood and a gay friend passed the screen would have no problem getting blood from them or any person i trust the blood screen enough, as far as discrim. tuff call think a few of those questions could be, that is my fair and honest thoughts. i been in cities most of my life someone with a different view on sex then mine is none of my business, i keep personal stuff personal and does not make them a bad person if they choose that lifestyle nor would it keep me from being a friend with them , it is their actions as a person i judge people by, not how they are labeld. and those are my thoughts . you live your life how you feel fit and i will do the same and not try and press it on each other and i will get along fine with that person then, same as reglion, i stay out of those fights, i know I have a god and am going to heaven and prey and yes even read the bible, but i don't go to church for reasons of my own, i will pop in once in awhile in the am mass but have my own issues with org reglion and has nothing to do with my personal realitionship with god, southern baptish love to fight you on that but i would just let the blab I know where i stand in his eyes.;)

i love ya` but it scares the hell out of me that you would be untruthful when being screened to give blood.....

if you do,you can imagine how many others might...thinking they`re o.k.....and maybe they aren`t....

that`s why we may have a somewhat tainted blood supply...

don't think it is anyones business i poped a few wild women when i played ball, i have had my aids test and other blood work done a few times so what i did back in the mid 80's is none of their business when i know my blood is fine from being tested for ball and health insurence, so why tell them something almost 20 years ago think it is stupid. and like i said i know i am clean so no big deal.

like i said i don't think I am ok I know it for a fact. and never rode with out the shield;)
