Gotta say I agree with Fletcher on almost everything in the above post.

However, I do think the Padres will hang around and probably win a weak NL West Division. Giants and D'Backs are on the decline and the Dodgers can't hit so I think the Padres are the most balanced team in the division.

I also wouldn't totally count out the Expos to not be able to win some series. I assume they will struggle every year yet they usually hang around and play 500 ball. Indians are a somewhat talented young team and I think the Tigers young pitchers are much better than they appeared last year. Pudge will help them tremendously.

The Rangers starting pitching may be the worst I have ever seen.

Dodgers under and Rangers overs!

Good Luck!

hot:

Seattle

I expect them to fade in the 2nd half but believe they will start out hot. I am sure they will be out to prove everyone wrong who says they can't finish 1st in the division. Just think age and injuries will get them this year. None of their 5 starters missed any starts w/ injuries last year. Doubtful that will happen again.

Phillies:

Unlike last year I think they start out hot. Shouldn't hurt that I don't think the Braves will run away with the division like last year. Also they didn't seem to handle the greater expectaions last year and now think they are ready.

St. Louis

I pick them for one main reason: Ya think they are getting a weee bit tired of hearing about Chicago and Houston? While I think they will finish 3rd behind those 2 (a 2nd place finish would not shock me) I do think they will start out strong. Not saying they will definitely be motivated by the perception that they are 3rd best in the division but at the same time I would not be surprised if they were and end up in 1st place in the division until May-June or so.

not:

San Diego and Kansas City

The main reason I pick these 2 is that they are in the unfamiliar position of being picked by many to win their divisions (or in S.D's case at least noticeably improved). I am always worried about how teams will respond. Seems like more often than not those teams do not meet expectations..or at least not early on. I think both have good chances to win their divisions but a slow starts would not surprise me.

dont sleep on the mets. their lineup is alot better than people think and if they can pull off a miracle and land milton bradley which they are working hard to do by monday morning they could be in good shape once reyes is ready. floyd and piazza will standout this year and with the addition of matsui and cameron they will give themselves chances to win alot of games. cameron will help them the most on the defensive side as he is arguably one of the best center fielders in the game. if piazza plays first where he should they can now throw runners out stealing which they havent done in years. wigginton will continue to grow and improve and their pitching coach(peterson) who came over from oakland will help them more than any other coach. he did wonders with oakland.
well i am not saying they will win the east, but there should be some value in them this year. they will be above 500 this year if not better.
