yes we all know how big money can buy players. as right now i am loving it. did play w/yanks today, but when they lose im normally loving it.

lets see

they have an all-star at almost every posistion, so why arent they playing well?
well maybe because there just is not leadership on this team, thats why. someone on that team must take hold and be the leader. but then again maybe the other stars wont like it?

rememebr a few years agao when snyder and his washington redskins bought all that talent. shit that jerk as a owner decided to charge fans just to see there practices.

and what happened?

redskins were no where to be found that year. because they just had no leadership

its true, if u cannot jell as a team.without leadership, u might as well fold. because u just wont win, period.

lets look at some of the teams over the years that did great without all the big stars

seattle mariners (got rid of griffey,a-rod,and randy) then became a better team

new england patriots last year. had no talent, but won as a team

1990 reds vs oakland a's. oh yeah a's had all the talent, were even 4-1 to win the ws. and what happened? they got swept

team usa (hockey) beat a suppose to great russian team in the olympics

if u dont jell as a team, u just wont win!!!

yankees are in trouble, with all the money they spent, if someone does not take over, it will be too late

and im sure the redsox and there fans are just loving it

i don't necessarily think it's leadership, teams just don't gel overnight. Superstars or not, teams need to develop chemistry. This team will come around, it's still April!

The bottom line is they are not playing the game of baseball like they should. They get 1st and 2nd no outs and instead of bunting them over they insist on letting all their big guns try to hit the ball out of the yard instead of playing the small game. That is the problem. They need someone to set the table because we all know they have plenty of guys to clear it.

They just need to suck their egos up and play. If it means sacrificing an abat a game so be it but that is what needs to be down. They need to take advantage of every run they can get. Just the teams in the late 90's.

they will be fine. give them about 1 more week because with oakland coming to town it may not happen early in the week.
but it will come.

going into this weekend...

going into this weekend...

Defused Bombers
It?s bound to happen in April and September.
By Spike Vrusho

SUDDENLY, ALL THE cliches about the "cruelest month" can hold true for this pinstriped April. Columbine High School, Hitler's birthday, the Oklahoma City bombing, Waco?realities that easily invade the pre-spring reverie surrounding the RMU (runner moved up) stat in the box score.

Oh yeah, add to that list of grim realities the A-Rod slump.

It's not unusual, considering that the first unfolding of the pocket schedule required figuring Tokyo flight times and distances. Once focus could be established, it looked like the only break the Yankees would have this month was a pair at home against the Devil Rays.

Add a few losses chalked up to jet lag, a looming Gary Sheffield thumb injury or a lost reservation at Tao, and Yankee fans could still figure on juggernaut-style baseball not seen in the American League East since 1998.

Despite the .500 ball barely being maintained by George Steinbrenner's alleged team of All-Stars, the public relations black eye suffered in Boston last weekend will no doubt linger into this weekend's Bronx confab between the two highest payrolls in baseball. It's been a week braced by unlikely headlines in newspapers and on the internet. "A-Rod gets hit" and "A-Rod knows better days ahead" and "Awful A-Rod" were just a few Richie Rich subplots that seeped out of Rodriguez's almost comical 1-for-17 run at the plate.

Yankee fans are familiar with AL MVPs arriving here and tanking. Jason Giambi was the opening act for this recent A-Rod dirge. Only the diehard Yankee fans root for the third baseman wearing number 13. Everyone else likes to see him fail. A bad throw to second, plus Derek Jeter's and Giambi's miscues in the Hub threw salt in this media wound. It's no wonder that even last Sunday's New York Times sports section got in on the act, publishing a box score of last Saturday's Chicago?Tampa Bay baseball game with a "White Sox 4, Lightning 1" header. I guess Frank Thomas had a hat trick against a suddenly weak Nikolai Khabibulin. The Islanders should be ashamed!

Everything is supposed to go according to the plans of Peter Gammons, Bill James and Rob Neyer. When they don't, even in April, there is hell to pay. Last year's Kansas City Royals are this year's Seattle Mariners, or vice versa? And don't forget the 2004 Tigers. It's always funny when the media is "forced" to pay attention to small market teams in the Midwest. Remember them? As quaint as Richie Cunningham. Enduring that surprised look on Karl Ravech's smug Baseball Tonight face everytime he has to do a "how about those Tigers?" update is sheer torture. Good thing ESPN hired John Kruk, otherwise the English-made Hanson brick kept by the sofa would have been tossed through the screen of the 32-inch JVC television long ago.

The "this engine's thrown A-Rod" media frenzy is slightly mirrored by the team from up north as they heard ugly utterances of "Arroyo fever" and endured the dalliances of health-nut Gabe Kapler as he attempted to run the bases in real time. If anything, the tighter quarters of Fenway Park allowed all fans to enjoy the steroid chant taunting of various Yankee bulkheads. Only fans in San Francisco are more articulate or learned. Yankee Stadium dwellers are also among the top-notch hecklers, but they are victims of poor acoustics and misguided redneck culture via "Cotton Eye Joe" PA anthems. The song should be scrapped as it is too close to the Carmines' pathetic "Cowboy Up!" rallying cry. At least at Shea, Mike Piazza is honest when he selects a delicious "Breaking the Law" Judas Priest number to play on the PA as he slowly makes his way to the plate.

But back to the "All-Star" line up comparisons. The mistake of this overused and frequent reference to the current Yankees is that All-Star line ups do not play well together. No one knows each other on the field, the batting order has no structure or strategy. It's a hodge-podge of big egos?fan and media favorites thrown together for an exhibition spectacle. And I've always wondered which All-Star team Enrique Wilson played on.

And the bad news could get worse with the arrival of the Oakland A's next week. This team had a horseshoe up its collective ass in the earlygoing.

That is, until they lost a 14-inning game in Seattle earlier this week thanks to a balk. Earlier in the top of the ninth, Jermaine Dye made it 1-1 with a home run that Ichiro could have robbed, had it not been for a hefty Seattle woman who pulled a Jeffrey Maier, only she had a bottle of Bud in her right paw and botched the catch. It was still a home run, and Ichiro would have caught it and the A's would have lost 1-0. But instead, they had to drag it on and let this boyish reliever Justin Duchscherer?a South Dakotan?balk the winning run in after several innings of solid junkball work.

We'll see what kind of luck the swingin' A's still have when they arrive in the Bronx, having had that dog act from Boston warm up the stage for them.

It's a combination of ownership,management, and leadership.
They're like the Rangers -- Stars,Stars,Stars but no focus.
Don't get me wrong - I'm a big Yankee fan. They just don't have a clue.
But like was said - it's early and they can come alive and pity the A.L. if they do.

Their in a bad stretch right not; they will come out of it sometime.

Big Tyme has a very good point they have all power hitters and they have never been asked to hit the ball to the right side to advance runners. But over a long haul season they will win more games than they lose. The problem could be in the playoffs when a great pitcher can dominate a batter and if the batter doesn't take what is given to him it makes it tough to get a hit.

I coach high school baseball and what I tell my kids is that don't make hitting complicated it's hard enough on it is own. Don't try putting a square block in a round hole. What that means is if the ball is away take it the other way; and pull the inside pitch. If you try doing the opposite plan on walking back into the dugout.

First off i haven't seen more than 15 games by the yanks this year but the ones I have seen i notice a couple things. Giambi is trying to yank the the pitches so the ball knocks over the fence; not saying he can't do it but those balls tailing away from him he looks bad swinging and then he adjusts his stance and crowds the plate and they bust him in on the hands. Normally that pitch would be the one he launches but he adjusted his stance so know he gets caught looking. A-rod needs to relax I believe after a good week to ten days of hitting he will be fine; but right know he is swing for a grand slam with nobody on base. His hands are gripping the bat to hard trying to twist it into splinters; because he is so anxious on crushing the ball. If you watch his feet he is shifting his weight to his front foot way before the ball is ready to be hit and that causes him to hold up his swing and thus loses his power.

just my observation; which with video watching they will be able to see that and then look out american league; but if they are stubborn look out for George cause he will go crazy

5 in a row,..3 vs. the A's who have a name on paper but are not that good so far this year and 2 vs. the Royals who are one notch above the Expos,...lets not get too exited just yet:yawn: :nooo:

,....realy cracked me up to see Jeter finaly get hits from KC pitchers who give it up easier than a 2 dollar crack hoe as the Bronx fans cheered him on while foaming at the mouth while the lousy Royals got pounded:142smilie
