I just wanted to congradulate my bolts for picking up a stud like Philip Rivers...This guys is the real deal, a field genius, with a magnificent arm and a awesome toughness....This is a new day for Chargers fans, because we finally have a true STUD at the helm who will turn this team around and will never give up...Alot to respect about the kid as he has raised a child he fathered when he was still in college and put away the partying to play the game he loves and to support the people he loves...Thank GOD we traded that daddy's boy Eli, GROW SOME BALLS

Sandiego absolutely broke it off inside of NY..

Can't believe NY gave up all them picks for Eli.. Rivers is the better QB of the 2...

Honestly, I hope they both fail miserably... My Steelers just got the man...

Manning is just considered better because his brother is the best QB in the NFL, but Rivers is much more of a Peyton in my mind in the way he plays the game and his intelligence and toughness...My money is on Rivers to be the most succesful of the bunch

I like the Rivers kid alot. No way you take a QB that publicly states he don't want to play for your team. Let him go and deal with that NY media for a few years.

What will happen to Drew Brees ?

Things can get worse for the Giants.
3 years ago Vick signed a 62 million dollar/7 year contract with Falcons. He is worth it (if healthy).
Manning will want more.
QB Collins is scheduled to make 7 million this year. They are going to cut him.
The Giants probably wont sign Manning until just before the regular season starts. When will they cut Collins?

Plus even if they do bad, they gave up next year's #1 pick for Eli.

Eli's attitude sure seems a lot like another young QB -- Ryan Leaf.

If Eli is the Giants' starter this season, that's going to be a top 10 draft pick the Chargers will get next year.

Obviously I am biased on the Manning issue, however, everyone is quick to say that Rivers and Rothlisberger are better. I keep hearing from the doubters that Manning wont be good in the NFL. Eli was the best quarterback in the best conference. Plus many people point out that he had some of the worst talent in the conference surrounding him, and he was playing teams like Florida, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Oklahoma St. (cotton bowl). But how can anyone say that Rothlisberger is better, he played in the MAC (basically abunch of large high school football teams that remember when one of their own knocks off a BCS conference team for 10 years). So how can people say that Rothlisberger will be better, i admit that Eli will have way more pressure on him. But Rothlisberger should have the hardest time in the Nfl.

the giants. they were 4-12 last year. their vets aren't that good anyway. tiki (fumble) barber ! collins would be better this year, but eli will be fine. no offensive line and injury plagued rec.the giants have no corners either.

Bubba, eli is not ryan leaf. leaf played 2 yrs of ball and the media made him a star that year. eli has played well with mediocre talent for 4 yrs. who else got drafted from ole miss this year ? no one i'm sure. i wish eli was in oaktown and i am glad the chargers dumped him. who cares what draft choices the chargers get. marty is an average coach at best. he is conservative and no one will want to play for him. keep drafting players and grooming them for free agency for the rest of the league as usual. sorry, sd is not the place to be.

do not knock eli for his choice. he is not the only player to do this and he won't be the last. rivers is a talented man with a very good arm. hate sd but will look forward to watching him.

Elvis,

Time will tell, of course. I checked on the Giants games this year and except for Dallas, there isnt any real tough defensive teams.
Yes, I know the Eagles were good, but if you check the stats from last year, the Eagles were around 18th in the NFL in most stats. Plus now they do not have either top CB.
So Manning should have an advantage this year.
People will probably bet the under this year, especially at first. The Giants should be a better OVER bet.

Plus,

Schottenheimer is scheduled to be the goat again (maybe he deserves it).
The got rid of the problem players and kept some descent young players. The offensive line is being rebuilt. They wont play Rivers this year. They will let Brees and Fltie run for their lives all year.
Then the top pick next year with a high Giants pick, and they can bring in a good young coach (like Edwards) and make him look good.
They may be in LA in a few years, and the Chargers want to go in a good, young team.
Of course, they could be another Clippers and fall on their faces for 10 more years.

the giants rated eli very high & the gap between him & the # 2 qb was large.

they felt that eli played in a tough conference & he took the talent further along than they deserved to go.

they couldn't take cleveland's trade offer because they were afraid that they would lose eli.

i also thought that they gave away too much. but then again i'm not an nfl scout.

bubba, appreciate the tip on the over. will look closely here. the giants corners were pathetic at the end of last year. do you know if they are returning any good corners ?

ps. the chargers are waiting for mr. davis to go into a permanent coma. i think he would attempt to tie up their move to la in court:D although i am not sure he could.

Couldn't agree more gw. SD played the Giants like a fiddle, but I am not completely sold on Rivers as such a top pick. Don't remember him getting alot done at NC State, don't get me wrong, I think he is a very capable QB, but prone to injury and is not mobile at all.

IMHO I think the Steelers got the best of everything with Roth, the sooner he can replace the loser and whiner Maddox the better.

Manning will be a work in progress, I don't think he will fair well in the first yr and maybe not even in 2nd or 3rd. This kid is nowhere in the league of Vick and I think everyone thinks he is.

Time will tell.

The Giants corners were hurt off/on all year. The two "Wills"
are young and potentially good.

The Giants picked up a few descent defenders as free agents, but any holes will be picked on by a good QB,

The first 4 QBs they face are McNabb, Brunell, Garcia and Farve.
A good QB will tear the Giants apart. The Chiefs had free agents last year but they hid the deficiencies until midseason and then the roof caved in.

I am not sure how the defensive cordinator is at bringing players together.

Checking on the new Giants defense, they added some to the defense-back position and replaced the DL loses.
However, the Giants lost all 3 starting LBs from last year. They have only signed Emmons from Phil. He is good, but the other two holes probably wont be filled with quality players.
There still is no depth at DL and LB. Any injuries (or suspensions) and the Giants will be in worse trouble.

Instead of getting Manning, the Giants could have traded down and gotten a couple of excellent linebackers.
