Manny Ramirez visits his old stomping grounds of where he played for eight seasons as the Boston Red Sox travel to Jacob?s Field to match up against the Cleveland Indians.
The Red Sox lost three straight games to the Rangers over the weekend and send pitching ace Curt Schilling to the hill tonight. Schilling has already started the season with a 3-1 record while allowing 13 runs on 36 hits in 36 innings of work. His last outing found him pitching against Abbot and Tampa Bay, as he got the ?W? allowing no runs on only five hits. Schilling has been a beast against batters, striking out an amazing 39 batters in his five starts.
The Indians put the 1-1 Jake Westbrook on the mound against the Red Sox. Westbrook has faired well in his four starts this season, allowing only four earned runs on ten hits in 21 and 1/3 innings of effort. The problem with putting Westbrook on the mound for the Indians is he is only 1-5 at home the first half of the season. It doesn?t help either that Cleveland?s bullpen has allowed a heinous 67 earned runs on 113 hits so far this season. Hopefully Westbrook will get some help on the offensive side to keep a big enough lead before the bullpen goes in.
This is the first time these two teams will meet this season while Schilling is 1-0 with an ERA of 2.00 against the Indians, and Westbrook is 1-1 with a 5.19 ERA against the Sox. Cleveland might have a rough time against these hard-hitting Sox, as the Indians have allowed an average of 5.9 runs per game in their last seven games. This is a great scenario for Boston as they post a perfect 7-0 record on the road against AL teams who allow 5.7 runs or more a game.
Will the Indians bullpen be capable of surpassing their season high win streak of two games? The Sportsbooks don?t seem to think so as they have Boston as heavy $2.00 road favorites with a total of eight runs. It doesn?t help Cleveland either that Curt Schilling has an excellent 11-1 record in May.
