Vanished into vortex
When staying at a hotel that gives you wireless internet access in your room is it like your access at home, by that I mean can I check and send e-mail through my e-mail client or would I have to have it forewarded to a web-based e-mail client and check it there? Will it operate on my built in wireless card?
Gonna be in Atlantic City first part of next week for a few days, but would be nice to get a LITTLE work done as well.

Just like home...on your laptop, of course.

It is a wire that plugs right into laptop...you don't need a card.....plugs right in.

As usual Wilson has no idea what he's talking about. Most hotels close all smtp ports so you will not be able to send email through your normal email client. You will be able to receive mail and surf the web. I can't speak for all hotels but that is the standard. You can still send mail through the web.

Seriously, penguinfan, you should forward your email to your web based account if you can. I made the mistake of not doing that once and I ended up having to do a bunch of copying and pasting if I wanted to include the previous message in my replies.

Also, maybe this makes me a big nerd, but sometimes if the hotel has wired broadband internet access instead of wireless I'll just pack my access point from home with me. You can just plug it into the wired connection in your room, set up WEP for security and then that way you don't have to be sitting at the desk if you need to check email.
