It looks like I'll be busy again in the morning, so I want to get a couple in for Thursday now:
DETROIT TIGERS (+106) Okay, as I am typing this, the Royals are pounding the ball around the park and look like they will cruise to victory. I am looking for a different story when it's no longer Don Knotts, er Mr. Furley, er Gary Knotts, yeah Gary, on the hill for the Tigers on Thursday afternoon. I think one could easily argue Nate Robertson is Detroit's best starter right now, sporting a 3-3 record and a 4.56 ERA on the season. He pitched 7 scoreless in his last start at Seattle, and prior to that struck out 10 Rangers in just shy of six innings. This is quite the contrast when you look at who's taking the mound for KC - Brian Anderson. Oh, Boy, my eyes are lighting up already.....1-6 on the year with a nifty 7.41 ERA, 13 dingers surrendered, and this is my favourite 85 HITS IN 54.2 IP!!
Anderson IS 5-0 lifetime versus the Tigers, but I just think that given his current form, this is a major pitching mis-match and I will gladly go with +106 for fading this guy.
ANGELS/BLUE JAYS over 8.5 (-109) This Blue Jay club is streaky, and they have gotten some real good breaks to win the first couple games of this series. I am looking for them to build on this and continue to swing the bats well against Washburn, who, although he is 7-1 on the year, carries an ERA of 4.61 and is only 1-3 in his career against the Jays. On the other hand, Halladay needs to come up with a good performance after his less than stellar last outing at Fenway, where he gave up 5 ER in 6 IP and actually walked more hitters than he struckout. However, his career numbers versus Anaheim suggest this may not be easy, as his ERA is 7.75 in 36 innings pitched against them. I think the 8.5 hung on this game is worthy of an over play.
I will update the record when I get a chance after the conclusion of the Pirate/Cardinal game, but here's hoping Pittsburgh can get the job done.
Good Luck Everyone,
Sharky
