Sox look to Rauch as a stop gap in their fifth starter role, a spot that is a combined 3-17 over the past two seasons. Rauch has never been able to stick at this level and with a rested bullpen, he won't have much of a chance to get himself into trouble.

Angels have lost 4 straight by one-run, so on the "due" theory, (which has a tendency to take money out of my account), they should have a big showing today against an overmatched Triple A pitcher.

Sele is also trying to hold onto a fifth starter role, but his situation is very much different as he has the stuff to stick. Really surprised by this line today and feel like a big square betting into it, but I'm used to it.

Sele -1.5 (+145) 1 unit

Injuries:

Anaheim - CF Garret Anderson (arthritis in back, 15-day DL); RHP Brendan Donnelly (fractured nose, 15-day DL); 1B Darin Erstad (right hamstring, 15-day DL); 3B Troy Glaus (right shoulder, 60-day DL); RHP Greg Jones (right shoulder, 60-day DL); DH Tim Salmon (left knee, 15-day DL).

I like the Sox bats against these.

The Sox deadly (NOT) fifth starter, and Ozzy not there for the game. Don't get this line at all. Sele is 8-3 with a 3.61 against the Sox.

Gonna go the other way here.

Anaheim is 3-11 in road games after 2 straight losses by 2 runs or less over the last 3 seasons.

Sele is 2-11 in road games when his team is off 3 or more consecutive losses.

Sele is 3-14 in road games after giving up <=2 earned runs in his last 2 outings.

Anaheim av only 4.4 runs per game over their last seven with an OB% of .350.

Sele doesn't keep it going after he has had a couple good starts. With his missing offense, against the Sox bats at home, even with this pitcher, I think the Sox have a shot here. The fact that Rauch hasn't pitched, and Ozzy came out and said he would like to be able to keep him, may give him a boost of confidence. Rauch must know they dropped Wunsch to give him this shot. Sox bats know they need to show up today with all these odds against them.

Players to watch
The White Sox could use a healthy Magglio Ordonez in the lineup Saturday. He has 16 hits in 35 at-bats against Aaron Sele, with one home run and four RBIs. Carlos Lee has three home runs against Sele, while Jose Valentin and Frank Thomas have gone deep two times apiece against the Anaheim right-hander.

I could be dead wrong as the Sox never seem to do well in these weekend games after playing good the previous week.

Just and FYI-

Jon Rauch was baseball's number 1 prospect in 2000. He then had the worst surgery a pitcher can possibly have...labrum surgery. He came around pretty good last year, and is really rounding into form this year. He is the tallest pitcher in baseabll-6'11". You would think he would be a power pitcher, but that isn't the case. He relys on control and a sharp breaking ball. He had good numbers in AAA Charlotte this year, even though he is a fly-ball pitcher in a bandbox. I look for him to have a quality start...but the thing that scares me is KW was trying to acquire a pitcher this whole week in order to NOT call Rauch up. So if the GM doesn't have confidence in him...why should betters?

I think the OVER is the play here.

Thanks, IO. I'm going to see them on Sunday and things should be fine. As soon as Kenny Williams does get another no. 1 or 2 pitcher, I will guarantee that Schoenweiss loses his next 3 starts in the no. 5 spot. It's just one of the quirky things that makes baseball different.
