My wife and I just recently purchased a home, w/ a full basement. one half is gonna be with my daughters toys and stuff and the other half, i was gonna paint the walls Cubby Blue and make it into a nice relax area to watch tv and drink. I wanna build like a mini bar, but is it a pain in the ass or should I just check out local stores if I can buy a pre-assembled one. I dont want it to be to big, just like a normal size where i can fit glasses and bottles and stuff and a mini refrigerator on the bottom. Let me know if any of you can help. thanks guys!!!

Do you know of any carpenters?

Some of those guys love doing custom chit like this. You could work along with them hand in hand. If you want to change something, add, or if a mistake is made, you can improvise right there. And the $$ would be less.

i know one person who is a carpenter, but he is so lazy; it took him 2 months to build my buddy's deck. he would work on it for a few hours than say he needed to go get some parts than he would never come back. a couple of my friends work for a glass company and they said they may help me out on getting a glass top and we can just build the base for it.

I've seen a couple bars in the past built with glass block;) as the wall under the top.

You could add funky lighting and all.

Are you sure you want to go with Cubby blue:nono:

speaking from experience, i would say to buy a bar.

less of a headache especially if you hire a friend to build a bar.

I built one in our condo when we were in college which turned out much nicer than I expected. It was an easy build. We had a mini-fridge under and two shelves for glasses. We did not have any hanging glasses (plastic cups don't hang well!). I did have the famica top cut by the professionals, though.

If you plan on liveing in the house for a few years. Take time now to do it a little better then you think. I would forsure find away to make it a wet bar. You will be glad you did. And enjoy it even more.

hehe...i know that after last night. i was hanging a poster i have of Andre Dawson up and it broke and the glass went everywhere. my wife said no glass bar after that incedent. I think i'll make the bar project for a 'winter project'. my old lady wants me to do other things...
