Anyone hear much from this band made up of the ex Gun's-n-Roses guys minus Axl? There is something coming up around here called the Rolling Rock Town Fair, annual event that has alot of either younger bands or washed up bands desperatly trying to hold on to some glimpse of fame and Velvet Revolver was just added to the line up of bands playing this year. Anyone know if they are worth seeing live or not? Really wouldn't mind seeing Slash play live again, hell I would probably pay the $49 to see him play guitar solo, but I am not sold on Scott Weiland so much, never really cared for him. I guess they have an album coming out on the 8th this month and I have yet to hear any raido airplay from it around here, which is bad because the local rock station usually pimps everything to death when a band is coming to town.
Thoughts?

I saw them on Letterman a week or so ago. The music was good, but the lyrics are lacking and I cannot stand to watch wyland prance around on stage.

I have downloaded three VR bootlegs this week and I like them all. Hard, pure rock...something that is rare these days, in my opinion...Slash sounds great. It's good to hear some raw rock n' roll. $49 is a good deal in these days and times I guess but the show will only be 83 minutes long.

I'd definitely pay the money, I'd like to see them. If you aren't a big scott weiland fan, you might be a little dissapointed...some of their songs sound like vintage STP if you ask me.

Thanks guys, MB, thanks for that link as well. Will probably end up going depending on if I can stomach any of the other groups playing that day.

HHMM, well, after listening to the album I will probably go simply because it's the closest I'll ever get to seeing GNR again, but I am not impressed with Scott Weiland, though I was never a big STP fan so that doesn't suprise me.

Damn it Axl, get over it will ya.

Im going to see their show in LA on 6/8 the same day the cd comes out. I'll post and let ya know how they are. The track called "slither" is getting airplay out here and they sound pretty good. They also did an interview on Howard Stern a couple of weeks ago and the only GNR song that they are allowed to play in concerts is Mr Brownstone. I think Axl holds all the rights to all the other GNR songs

I wasn't sure how that all played out, but it definatly sucks, hearing anyone but Slash play the intro to Sweet Child Of Mine is just plain wrong. Lemme know how the show is.
Thanks

Agree 100% and being an STP fan I love it.

Still doubt this band lasts very long knowing all of their track records though

my best friend just saw them here in Chicago and said they put on a really great show. He said Weiland really interacted w/ the crowd and all the members really got into playing every song. He said the show was only about a 1hr 30 mins, but he said he would pay to see them again...

Back in the grunge era, I saw STP. I've seen a ton of shows, and they were by far the top 1 or 2. Scott just has a ton of energy, lot of interaction with the crowd. I saw them at the Coliseum on Long Island. Midway through the show, scott got on the mic and said he had some friends coming out to play a song or two. He said they were "a garage band from Boston, you might have heard of them". THen out came Steven Tyler and someone else from Aerosmith. Scott and Steven then sang duo of Sweet Emotion, I've got to say it was unbelievable.

Just listened to the album for the first time....

...Was a little less "rocky" than I expected (ie. Slash's Snakepit), but as a big STP fan, this isn't such a bad thing! :D

Fall To Pieces is about as GnR 'balad' as you could get tho.

Would be fantastic live, I have no doubt. Can't wait until they hit the shores of Oz.

Hey penguinfan...the concert last nite was a reall good. They played for about 1hr 20 minutes (seemed kind of short). The music was great and there was lots of interaction with the audience. I did kind of get tired of Scott Weiland dancing around but what can ya do. They pretty much played most of their new album. They also played a couple of STP songs don't know the titles but it was a couple of their famous ones and as for GNR songs they played Its So Easy, I Used To Love Her, & Mr Brownstone. I'd recommend checking them out.
