Has anyone seen this movie and if so, what did you think of it?

I am asking cause my g/f and I are planning on renting it tonight and I wanted to know if people thought it was worth watching.

I am very critical of movies and I'd say I have a hard time sitting through at least 50% of the movies we rent or go to the theatre to see these days. Most are not worth the $7.50 to $10 per person they charge at the movie theatre and many are not even worth the $3.95 rental fee.

Also, anyone that wants to recommend any good flicks they hve seen lately would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Well Crimson ... some of my favorite all time movies are:

The Shawshank Redemption
American Beauty
American History X
Seven
The Silence of the Lambs
First Blood
Jaws
and the 1st half of the movie Full Metal Jacket

I do tend to like disturbing and dark stuff ... I prefer the drama/mystery/suspense genre in general more than other types of stuff.

nole ... if we watch it this weekend ... I will post my opinion of the movie.

The only good movies I have watched recently that I would actually recommend are "Radio" and "The Runaway Jury".

School of Rock was somewhat entertaining too ... Gothica I did not really enjoy that much although it didn't suck. I tried watching The Hulk but turned it off out of complete boredom after about 30 minutes.

Anyone else seen anything recently that didn't suck?

btw nole ... 'The Cooler' and 'Lost in Translation' are on my list of movies to possible check out.

Going to "Stepford Wives" tonight with my wife.

I'll give a full report tomorrow. Really liked the original w/Katherine Ross.

It looks like they're going to make it more of a comedy than suspenseful. Hope it works.

I rented "Mystic River" the other night, best movie I've seen in awhile. I think BEANTOWNJIM was the guy who lured the kid into the car.:D :thefinger

Well guys ... we rented Monster, Mystic River and The Cooler over the weekend. Amazingly, my g/f and I gave all three of them a thumbs up.

Monster was dark and disturbing for sure but Charlize Theron was incredible in the lead role. I felt sympathetic to her character and the horrible life that likely led to her becoming the first female serial killer.

The Cooler also featured some very good acting and we both enjoyed the story. Of course, being a gambler, I generally do like movies centered around the topic.

Mystic River was long and a bit slow at times but the acting was top notch. A very solid movie overall. The end was a bit strange. What the hell was up with Laura Linney's character at the end in the bedroom seen with Sean Penn and the parade scene was also kinda strange.

I would recommend all three of them as far as being decent flicks to watch. If you don't like dark, disturbing, realistic flicks ... I'd suggest you pass on Monster cause it's not going to leave you feeling happy and good.

Next up on my rental list might be "Shade". Has anyone seen this flick. I am also interested in anyone's opinion of the movie "Lost in Translation". I have not seen it yet but I know it got good reviews.

Hi Lightning. I also watched "The Cooler" this weekend. What a great movie. Alec Baldwin was fantastic as a prick as usual(Glengary/Glenross). William H. Macy was very convincing as the poor "cooler". I had no idea there were guys who were actually "coolers". Where do I sign up? I'd be great!
That ending had me bustin". I was crackin' up!

DO NOT PAY TO SEE OR RENT "The Stepford Wives". Brutal. Almost demanded my money back. Just awful. Was hoping they would show Faith Hill doing the nasty(there's one scene where she screaming bloody murder while getting screwed) but no luck.

The Cooler is definitely one I will add to my collection of DVD's.

"Shade" doesn't ring a bell with me. I'll have to check that out.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I have seen a story on all the makeup Theron put on to make her look like the real killer.....

.......they did one hell of a job in the makeup room.....

....as far as some of the prior posters being revolted at the movie......what did you think you were going to see?

....the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan was brutally bloody and graphic, but then isn't that being true to the reality of the situation war presents?
