cooz3--welcome to Atlanta. I will forewarn you that you are coming to Atlanta on one of the busiest weekends of the year for one of the biggest series for the Braves of the year. Basically, that means traffic is going to be TERRIBLE! Atlanta traffic is not the worst or the best in the country, but when more people are visiting than normal, it gets really bad.
Basically, there are a couple of avenues that you can take to make this as enjoyable as possible.
1. Stay close to the stadium. This is easier if the games are the most important thing, but the downtown scene and restaurants really lack.
2. Stay in Midtown. Midtown is the current happening scene for 26 to 35 year old people. There are bars that cater to younger and older crowds, but the majority is in the mid-20s to mid-30s crowd. This is probably your best bet for proximity and variety of things to do. If yuppies disgust you, proceed with caution.
3. Stay in Buckhead. This is the furthest area inside the perimeter from Turner Field. If you are very young 21-24, then this is a good place for bars for you. If you are older than this and do not like the zoo scene, stay away. This is my favorite area for restaurants, though, but head somewhere else for after-dinner entertainment.

My wife and I are moving in a week and a half or I would offer to show some hospitality to you and yours.
If you have questions about specific types of restaurants or bars, I will be glad to help.
