to oversee our elections say your Democratic reps. Are all you Liberals insane, the UN is as CORRUPT as it gets and you want them to oversee our Presidential election not to mention based on the avg number used to watchdog the voting it would take 20,000 UN personnel :142smilie .. Another stellar bit of wisdom from the Lefty Front

"Several members of the US House of Representatives have requested the United Nations to send observers to monitor the 2 November US presidential election.

The request sent via a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Thursday said US officials wanted to avoid a contentious vote like in 2000, when the outcome was decided by Florida.

Recalling the long-drawn-out process in the southern state, nine lawmakers, including four blacks and one Hispanic, asked that the international body "ensure free and fair elections in America", according to a statement issued by Florida representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, who spearheaded the effort."

If what you say is true we should get the names of the congressmen who made that requestr and be sure they get voted out next time they run.

Go ahead and kick the UN out of New York. Works for me. That being said, election fraud has happened in the good ol' US and to be fair BOTH SIDES have been guilty.

I totally agree with you, Pro. Remember how those UN guys couldn't find any of those weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Boy, are they incompetent. It took our beloved leader and vice-leader to flush them out at the expense of only 20,000 lives. Boy oh boy, is the UN inept. Screw the world, we got American Idol, Charlton Heston and Napa Valley wines.

the sudan needs the u.n.,also............maybe even a little more than we do....it`s only been ""a year""......and the death count might reach 500,000 before kofi and the boys can shake loose from their "politics" to do some good....

come to think of it,they`ll probably get involved here before helping the sudanese...

another rwanda on anan`s watch..another cambodia.....this has been going on for over a year....nothing`s been done....

why hasn`t the u.n. stepped in?....

the reason is because the member states, many of these thuggish governments who belong, control in large ways voting blocks in the u.n....and anan knows who butters his bread...... he knows that if he rocks the boat too much they will not keep him by unanimous acclamation as they did last time.

the organization of islamic states, along with russia, china and european countries who have oil interests in sudan, are trying to cover this up. ....so,many countries could vote against anan keeping his cushy job,if he took action that they didn`t like in sudan....

sound familiar?.....

while i`m here.....how about ole saddam pointing fingers and taking names at his hearing......like he`s still actually the leader of iraq.,...running the show.....crying.....making speeches.......bitching about bush....

he`s beginning to sound like al gore..... :scared

Why doesn't the wonderful and benevolent US step in like we so magnanimously did in Iraq? C'mon buddy, we are the worlds good guys in white hats. Why don't we help the Sudaneese?

The reality is that you continue to shift attention from the criminal acts committed by this administration to the UN. Several months ago you were saying screw the UN. Now your saying its the UN's fault in Sudan?

Moving targets are difficult to argue with. Are you sure you are not a lawyer? Good legal negotiating tactic.

why should we....we are "the bad guys"..........we get our asses handed to us when we remove a monster from power....i suspect the michael moore`s of the world will find a way to denegrate us ....even for humaitarian purposes...

why should we?....so other member nations can condemn us again for sticking our nose in their "oil interests"......again,we will be accused of getting involved for "the oil"....

and we both know that`s a joke.....we certainly are accruing some enormous debt for this "oil"....a pretty sh-tty deal, dollar for dollar...

where is the u.n.?......where is france?....(actually,they`re busy blocking nato from assisting in training iraqi troops so that the iraqis can truly defend themselves from the terrorists)?.......where`s the rest of the world?.....

we have a full plate right now....

btw....what exactly is the purpose of the f-cking u.n.,anyway?....

we send more aid to sudan than anyone else.....we support the u.n....isn`t preventing genocide important enough for the "preeminent world body"?

and if humanitarianiam isn`t on their "to-do" list, just exactly what is?

what the f-ck is the purpose of this scandal ridden, corrupt piece of sh-t called the u.n?....

I would think that if liberating the people of Iraq was important enough for the US, then "preventing genocide" would be up there, too.

The UN doesn't work because no one really cares. It's soley about what financially benefits each country. Kinda sounds like capitialism, doesn't it? France and Russia are good examples, but so is the US. I mean, the US invade Iraq for violating UN resolutions, yet the UN opposed the invasion??

so,i think we agree that the u.n. is basically a "placebo".........

bj,are you american?........and why do you feel that we are responsible for the sudan....for stopping yet more muslim atrocities....this time genocide against non-fanatical blacks?...and other non-fanatical muslims.......

why not the u.n.?.....why not france?....russia....germany?.....canada?.......we honestly can`t do everything in this world.....

what`s our vital interest at stake here?....and why don`t you think that if we attempted to stop the slaughter, that we wouldn`t be vilified by the countries that want to sweep this under the rug for their own economic interests?

llook,we can disagree on whether iraq was the right thing to do....and you can,in good faith, make the argument that it was the wrong decision....for the wrong reasons....

that`s intellectually honest....

i actually don`t know if it was a good idea to change the regime in iraq....

but i can make a case for doing it...there is rationale....i`ve already laid out the reasons in other threads... ....

but to correlate our getting involved in iraq because we felt it was in our best interests(argumentative and arguable) to being the humanitarian policeman when we can least afford it is a bogus argument....

every country is going to look out for its own best interests....agreed....

but the u.n. isn`t supposed to be a club where diplomats are willing to look away from genocide so that they can keep their cushy positions and line their pockets...using factionalism to undermine humanitarian purposes....

i ask again....what is supposed to be the function of the u.n.?....

and if someone reads their mission statement, are they living up to their mission?...

being the world`s policemen isn`t our mission....

keeping our citizenry safe......hopefully keeping the war on terror an "away game".. our economy strong....our energy supply constant and unencumbered.....that`s our government`s duty...

because we take an action that the government deems important....that you don`t agree with....doesn`t automatically mean we`re obligated to right every wrong around the world.....

that`s silly...
