Hudson Valley area.....NY
Need some help on the Outer Banks,NC
Looking to spend a week on the Outer Banks.Never been there and have no clues.
Taking my family down to enroll my son at East Carolina U.We thought we would spend the week before school starts on the Outer Banks.
Looking for Northern Outer Banks since we're coming down from NY.I have written for catologs and rentals at places like Duck,Kitty hawk,Kill devils,Nags Heads,Whales head etc.In that vicinity. They rentals and info should be coming in shortly.
Maybe some of you Tar heels can give me some advice.
Looking for semi-beach front, unless the price is great for a beach front rental.Want to rent a home for 1 week.
Looking to relax with my wife, walk to the beach, read a few books, etc. But also have a 15,18,and 19 yr old.Don't want to be out in the "boondocks" miles away from everything.Would like a town around with some things for kids.Shopping for my wife, resturants, etc.I don't need amusements parks, etc.
Looking to spend around $1,000-$1500 for the week.
Are the places I mentioned all pretty expensive resorts?I don't need Boardwalk or Park Place. But don't want Baltic or Mediterrian.
If I go further south does it get more expensive or is it cheaper? Want to stay above Greenville,NC .
Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Nags Head area will offer more accomodations... most of the outer banks is National Park land so not many hotels etc...

Nags Head is closer to main routes inland to ECU ...

I am more familiar with the southern part of the coast, but I know my sister and her husband, who reside in CT, recently went to Corolla which is in the outer banks near the border and they absolutely loved it.

Also you might be a little hard-pressed to find something this "late" in the season, stuff on the NC coast books pretty early. I will ask a few friends who are natives and get back to you if I learn anything of help.

We have vacationed there a few times.

Nags Head is the most touristy spot. Lots of places to eat, a great golf course, and miles of beaches. Last time we stayed further south (Avon I believe). There is a great beach at the south end where a famous lighthouse is. There is not alot of tourist attractions at that end but some good seafood restarants. You would be at the lower end of the housing at 1000-1500 per week during that time of the season.

We enjoyed oursdelves there but we always went in may before the peak season so we had the beaches to ourselves for the mostr part. Very quiet.

if you are willing to go a little further south, ocracoke village is a really neat place where i hang out alot in the summer. the town is isolated on the far southern tip of the outer banks, and has its own culture and appeal - narrow streets, lots of bicycles, lots of history( blackbeard's favorite anchorage, and where he was killed). accomodations range from some pricey b&b's to the good ol' pony island motel, economical bur perfectly satisfactory and with a little local charm. lots of boater types hanging around and laid back locals. the pelican and howard's pub are nice local resaurants and hangouts. you do need a 4x4 to do the beach thing, but when you get out there the beach and surf is some of the nicest on the east coast (as is most of the outer banks). decent fishing too. let me know if you make it, as there's a good chance i'll be out there with a rum drink on the stern of my boat.

i have stayed at avon many times and love it.i first went their in 1975 when it was almost deserted.hatteras village or buxton is nice also but ocacoke might be the best choice of all.go to howards pub and the backporch there and take the ferry over to swann quarter and ecu is not far at all.the northern part of the island is more populated but you can visit manteo and the elizabethian gardens and the local brewery.there is also an aquarium there.if you stay at nags head be sure and go to wanchese for dinner.have fun and drive safely.

Glad to hear you got most feeling back. Hopefully with time you will lose that sensation with touch. I'd say 85% is good for around a 6 ms period.
