Cal is ranked 11th and 21st pre season in two different polls. 8 looks like a low # for that highly ranked team in a weak confrence. and than -155 on top of that.

now look at the schedule (especially the first 5 games!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Sep 4 at Air Force TBA
Sep 11 vs New Mexico State 6:30 PM
Sep 16 at Southern Miss 7:30 PM
Oct 2 at Oregon State 4:00 PM
Oct 9 at USC TBA
Oct 16 vs UCLA 5:00 PM
Oct 23 at Arizona 7:00 PM
Oct 30 vs Arizona State 3:30 PM
Nov 6 vs Oregon 3:30 PM
Nov 13 at Washington 3:30 PM
Nov 20 vs Stanford 3:30 PM

they can start 2-3, that would leave them to have to run the table for a push.

I would say they start 4-1. Oregon St. is very weak. SMiss, AF, NM St. are nothing to write home about. USC would most likely be their one loss and who knows, if they could knock them off last year the same could very well happen again this year, although it is in USC. I think 8 wins does not offer much value, under or over it. There are better futures than this one.

I am gonna agree with markh again.

nut flush I have to disagree with your statement with CAL possibly starting out 2-3 this season. Where are coming from on this one?

Air Force starting QB was injured during Spring and they only return 4 men on defense. Southern Miss only returns 4 men on defense. CAL has one of the best QB's in the country and is coached by one of the best offensive minded coaches in the country. Cal should beat AF and Southern Miss by at least 10pts despite playing on the road. New Mexico St. is an auotmatic win.

The key games for CAL are Oregon, Oregon State and USC.

Winning 2 of those three games will put the Bears in position to go 10-1 (good enough for the Rose Bowl --- of course, this assumes a perfect season by USC). The rest of the games are not nearly as challenging.

Cal is a an experienced team this year and they impressed me last season which was suppose to be a rebuilding year. Do not underestimate Tedford as a head coach and an offense led my Rodgers. Cal also returns 9 players on defense.

Over 8 reg season wins +125 is the way to go IMO if you wanted to bet this prop. I might throw down $50 on CAL. Still thinking about it.

I'll chalk up a loss for CAL against USC.

Tough but winnable games against Oregon and @ Oregon St.

Tough games against ASU, UCLA, maybe even @ Washington (since it is late in year) but CAL "should" win all 3 especially with 2/3 at home.

I'll predict an 8-3 season for CAL (will get upset by middle road pac 10 team) and maybe finishing 3rd in Pac 10 since Oregon does not play USC. But I would not be suprised if CAL went 10-1 or 9-2.

You worded your post very awkward. You type as if 8 wins is too low of a # and that CAL should go over, but then you talk as if CAL could start 2-3 and must run table for push. You act like you are taking the over and the under or do not know what to take.

I am curious to why you think the PAC will be a weak conference next season? USC is a powerhouse, Oregon and CAL both clearly are above average teams, Oregon St., ASU, UCLA, WSU, and Washington at the very least are average teams with most of them having the talent to be above average teams, and then you have Stanford and Arizona as below average teams but are capable of upsets and are not bottom dwellers!!!! From the looks of it, looks like a strong conference top to bottom with no gimmie games. Good luck to anybody predicting the Pac 10 1-10!!!!!!!

Oregon and CAL both clearly are above average teams,
:lol2

while i say this quote over and over again in my mind... I am wondering what type of english this is first off, and secondly what the hell your are smoking??? The only reason you think Cal is "above" average is because the beat your ass last year. Please let me know the best bowl Cal has been to in the last 10 years. Oregon was an "above" avg team with Mr Harrington, but they have clearly come back to earth.

past 5 yrs records:::

"Above average" CAL bears-----8-6------7-5-------1-10-------3-8-------4-7 :142lmao:  :sadwave:

Quack attack------8-5------7-6------11-1-----10-2-----9-3----hardly "above" average for the past two years

1st of all, why are bringing up CAL's and Oregon's records the last 5 years? I was making my predictions for this coming season, not past seasons. Did you not understand what I meant? I think both CAL and Oregon will be above average teams this season. Again, why are "you" bringing up past records records or bowl appearances?

2nd, I am not alone with this opinion/prediction, most pre-season magazines have CAL and Oregon both ranked in the top 25 or very close.

3rd, let me explain how I rank teams. I have elite teams, above average teams, average teams, below average teams, and bad teams. Sound fair? I think so. Especially when we are dealing with such a large population (teams).

I think there are about 111 div. 1a teams but lets just use that # for arguments sake. I would say the top 10 are elite teams, #10-#30 are above average teams, #30-#55 are average teams, #55-#70 are below average teams, and #70-#111 are bad teams. Give or take as this is not an exact science but that is basically how I come up with a quick conclusion on how I judge a team. I am not really basing this solely on rankings, but on who I think are the top 111 strongest teams. Meaning I do not just factor in wins and losses. So I think both CAL and Oregon without question belong with the top 30 teams in college football. My opinion of course. Sorta similar to a grading scale of A, B, C, D, & F. C being average, so B would be above average and A meaning elite. Get it? Maybe you do not have elite teams and just say they are above average. I am not sure.

So I would not be so quick with the keyboard and blasting me about who I think are above average teams. I am not alone in thinking Oregon and CAL are good teams. Would you say good teams are average? Are average teams in college football ranked in the top 25? We are dealing with a population of around 111 div. 1a teams. Maybe we took different math classes. I obviously have a different type of grading scale than you.

Scott i dont even know where to begin. We may have taken different math classes, but we obviously took different english classes ie "both clearly are" should be both are clearly, but that is petty and probably why i misunderstood you. Second...we have not even started practice and you are telling me cal is above avg??? I am sorry, i judge on the teams past performances and that is why i brought up the past 5 yrs. My bad i forgot how strong the pac 10 is and has been in the past five yrs. I think u probably would have rated auburn "above" average last year and we all know that team was barely avg at the end of the year. You might be right and i will praise you if you are right, but i think a team to be "above" avg should have done SOMETHING in yrs past. I am not blasting you, just trying to figure you and your rankings out. IMO there is one "elite" team in the pac ten and the rest are "average"... How many "elite" or "above avg" teams do u see in the SEC?

I think both CAL and Oregon will be above average teams next year. That is called a prediction. Last year, I along with many thought AU would have been above average team last year. Actually, I thought AU would have been an elite team. My question to you is this. Are my "predictions" of both CAL and Oregon being above average teams next year ridiculous? Meaning you cannot possibly make a solid argument for both teams. We know pre-season magazines feel both teams are top 25 teams. I do not think my prediction was from left field.

I never said Oregon and CAL are above average "programs." I think this year both will be above average teams. Past years, especially past 5 years have very little to do with how both these teams will perform.

How many "elite" or "above avg" teams do u see in the SEC?

MY SEC CONFERENCE PREDICTION FOR THIS SEASON

Elite Teams

UGA
LSU

Above Average Teams

Tennessee
Florida
Auburn (based on potential and not what they did last year)
Ole Miss (but easily could be an average team if QB does not pan out)

Average Teams

Arkansas
Alabama
South Carolina

Below Average

Kentucky

Bad Teams

Miss. St.
Vandy

Cal should win nine games their out of confrence schedule is not that tough although thisteam did lose to Utah last year and Southern Miss can be a hostile venue especially for soft teams like Cal that do not play a physical brand of defense. Their only other potential loses are to Oreg, USC and Wash but they do get a break in playing in one of the lesser leagues thus they should win at least 8 or 9 games~!
