I just got back from watching it.
This is, seriously, a movie that everyone should watch. Leave the partisanship at the door and watch the movie for what it is and try to address the issues it raises rather than dismiss it a piece of propoganda.
I've never seen any of Moore's previous movies and the only impression I've had of him is a negative one, as his actions at the Oscars the previous year I thought were out of line and in poor taste. But in this movie he has created an incredibly powerful, moving, and compelling piece of work.
Sure, it's obviously slanted as anti-Bush, but that's the point. He also takes digs at the Democrats and the 'liberal' media as well for their actions. As I previously stated though, those who don't want to see it because it's anti-Bush or anti-war should do so in-order to address the issues this movie presents.
The obvious personal and business ties that Bush and his cronies have with the Saudi's.
The Saudi's having much more of a connection to the 9/11 attacks (15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi, Saudi Arabia were the primary funders of Al-Qaeda, etc.) than Iraq or any other country for that matter, yet Bush has given them a free pass.
Bush saying how he is a 'war' president and for the troops yet since the inception of the war on Iraq and terrorism, he has pushed to cut servicemen's pay, cut their families benefits, and cut veteran's benefits.
The loss of American soldiers lives and the impact on American families in Iraq, a country that never attacked an American citizen and only two years before we invaded ther country, the U.S government had deemed them not to have any weapons that could harm the United States and were basically a non-threat.
And there are plenty of other issues it raises. Instead of addressing those issues, the Wilson's of the world will ignore them and just say Moore is a fat Democratic slob and that's that. Follow the President and government blindly, they only have the American people's best interest in mind.
I feel like the one soldier who was at the veteran's hospital after serving in Iraq. He had been a lifelong Republican, but after realizing what a complete facade this whole war has been and is and everything that has accompanied it, he felt disillusioned and pretty much renounced his Republican affiliation. That's how I feel. At this date three years ago, I would have proudly stated I was a Republican. But since that time, forget it. There's plenty of corruption on both sides of the political spectrum, always has, always will be. But Bush and his boys take the cake. I'm pissed, I'm angry, I'm outraged and I hope this movie makes the same impression on others as it did on me. And hopefully it will have an impact on the upcoming election. I'm certainly not pro-Kerry, as I am not a supporter of the Democratic ideology or am impressed in any manner with Kerry himself. But at this point, almost anyone else in office is better than the buffon we currently have presiding there (that is, when he's not on vacation).
