It would not be surprising to see the Cardinals make a move today to reinforce their pitching. Dan Haren will start the first game today, a 12:10 p.m. start, while Chris Carpenter is scheduled for the 7:10 p.m. nightcap.

Rather than have Haren sit around spent and unavailable the rest of the weekend, the club may opt for a fresh arm from Memphis to get them through. One candidate would be Al Reyes, who is 2-2 with a 3.11 earned-run average and 22 saves. Reyes has fanned 45 in 37 2/3 innings.

Another possibility might be Chad Paronto, who is 5-3 with a 1.28 ERA.

Either of the righthanders would have to be added to the 40-man roster. The Cardinals have 38 players on the 40-man, as Ankiel and reliever Mike Lincoln don't count while on the 60-day disabled list.

Another Memphis righthander, Josh Pearce, is on the 40-man roster. Pearce has appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals over the past two seasons. He is 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA at Memphis.

IE,

Do you have any stats that show the percentages of winning both games of a DH? I know the Mets did it yesterday, but would you say that was rare? Is there any value to taking the Dog in both?

In seeing that, and also reading that St. Louis will start more regular starters in the day game, I really lean heavy toward the over in the first game, and the under in the second.

It was announced before the first game that Haran will be sent down to Memphis after his game and Reyes is coming up. You are right on the money.
