Here is what I have so far. Lines are as I played them.

7* USC/VT under 54
5* VT +18
5* Teaser: VT +25, under 61

No time for writeups right now, but I will have comments later.

Don't really know what to say about the above game that hasn't already been said. Since there has been so much time leading up to this game, it's been analyzed to death.

When I first saw the matchup I immediately felt to go with VT. When I saw the line I definitely wanted to go with VT. USC is coming off a championship season and is looking to be one of the most powerful teams this year. The Hokies, meanwhile, are publicly perceived to be on the decline.

We all know that the line is all about public perception. It has nothing to do with the relative strengths of the teams, although many games do come remarkable near the line. To beat the line, however, we must be aware of when public perception is off.

This is one of those games where public perception is way off. Virginia Tech is a program, not a one-year wonder, with one of the best coaching staffs in America. They reload every year like most of the consistently winning programs. They are virtually at home, well rested, while USC is going to come in with jet-lag, after a pre-season filled with distractions and injuries. They are not exactly coming in as a well-oiled machine. The Hokies have real talent, they are well coached, and they come to play.

I was on Auburn  last season when I was certain the Tigers would welcome these left coast guys to the SEC. The public is well aware of what happened, how Auburn was dominated and embarrassed. The public were burned last year, and they want to make certain they aren't burned again this year. This time they'll be ready.

This game, however, is quite different from last year. Last year Auburn was the team coming in with all the hype. Knowing what you know now, would you have taken Auburn -3 in that game? Nope, you would think it was a ridiculous notion. USC turned out to be playing on a whole different level than Auburn. However, the hype had gone to Auburn, and public perception was way off.

This season USC is the team with all the hype. They are 17 (I got them at 18) point favorites because of public perception. I think realistically USC might win by 3 to 10 points, and there's a possibility of a major upset. Virginia Tech is the object of the anti-hype. They are mentioned, for example, as an afterthought regarding the new teams joining the ACC. All that hype goes to Miami -- who I predict will lose to Florida St on the 4th. Excellent game to watch; intense rivalry.

Anyway, how ready do you think VT is to play this game, to let out a little steam, to remind people of who they really are? USC, on the other hand, can't get up for this game. Everyone already knows who they are. They have nothing to prove.

Both offenses will be stifled by both defenses. This will be a low-scoring game, which I why I have a 7* on the under -- especially under the 54 that I originally got. (I originally posted these plays in my pre-season thread, at the time that I took them.)

I think this particular teaser is one of the best I have ever given you. If USC beats VT by more than 25 points, and if the total is over 61, I will be absolutely amazed. I still think the teaser has value, even with the current lines.

OK, that's it for this game. I'm already looking to the 4th.

Best of luck to each of you.

Books are making it look as though public is on V-Tech, but it is not true.

Numbers at *********, before they started all over today, were 56% to 59% on USC, depending on the line used.

Carib reports that 53% of their clients are on USC while 47% are on VT.

Yet the line has creeped down to 16.5 at some books.

Books want USC money. They want to make a killing. It's easy to sell the defending champions.

The idea that the public is on VT is an illusion created and perpetuated by the books.

Good luck NY REB. Always look for your plays and enjoy reading your write-ups.

I have no $$$ on this game but I think this game could go 3 different ways. Most likely either a USC 20+ pt win or a close tight win. Other scenario is an upset and there are plenty of angles to support a V-Tech upset. Add to this being the 1st game of the season there is very little to go on. I am just hoping for a USC win.

NY REB I expect USC defense to be VERY GOOD this year so your under should hold up providing no homerun plays in this game and turnovers.

Thanks, guys. Let's all have a big year!

Carib currently reports that 60% are on USC and 40% are on VT.

We got'em just where we want'em.

Got line at +18 and am now going to take -15 1/2
and hope to hit the middle this could easliy have usc winning by 17 howeve I have put a nice chunk on the moneyline on vtech; even though vtech went like 0-5 ats last 5 games and lost alot of players this is the same team that absolutely thumped Miami so they have the talent to win this game and with Vtech propensity to blitz and sell out; going up against an Oline that is talented but with no real game experience and 4 wr with a TOTAL of 24 receptions with 17 coming from smith and USC #1 tightend out and one of their RBs out; This is a game that I can see VTECH winning straightup; this is not the same USC team from last year and although scott thinks tech wont be able to run against them i disagree i think hume and randle still have the talent and this dline although very good still lost talent and in the 1st game of the season look for the experience of randall to make a few big plays. We will soon see how good Lionhart is without mw and colbet and his exp offlne keeping off the ground.

NYREB I think money is going on V-Tech.

V-Tech is now -15.5 and +694 on the ML. V-Tech was +17.5 and +1100 last night and it has been going down since. I am just rooting for a USC victory today!

bbk, good luck on that money line play. That would be a nice bundle.

Rex, all the best to you as well.

Scott, don't really know how they work it. The line is down at Carib to 15.5, yet they have 60.4% of their clients on USC.

I'm really fascinated in how this game is going to turn out. It's probably one of the most analyzed games in history, outside of Super Bowls and stuff.

Carib is right that maybe 60% are on USC and 40% on V-Tech but the 40% on V-Tech are wagering a lot more $$$ and that is why the line is going down.

Me too and I agree with you. I am a little nervous as a Trojan fan. The game is sold out and I am not sure if a BCA game has been sold out before. I can't wait!

Tech D looks like they are feeding off the TD.

Thanks, Cie. All the best to you as well.

Damn I love this game!

VT 10-7 at the half.

All 3 of my plays on this game look good thru the 1st half. Now can they keep it up?

Scott, thanks for suggesting the 1st half under. I took it and it won easily.

God created college football to make men happy:)

Congrats on the sweep!

I am also glad you took my advice and won the under. I can't bet over/unders with USC because then I be rooting against USC or for the other team. Nice way to start off the year and I always have respected your handicapping. Great way to start off the season! :)
