why..............does everyone think the european game is better than the american game? i didnt see a whole lot of "better basketball" by the european teams the last 2 weeks. what i did see, however, was just much better shooting. americans cant shoot. theres no way around it. we can definitely take lessons on jump shooting fundamentals, but i dont think the style of the european game is at all better than our game. for all the crap americans take for being lazy -- the defense played by the euros is downright awful. all clutch and grab and poor footwork.
why.........is there so much negativity toward allen iverson? he might be the only guy on the squad who truly WANTED to be there and who truly understood his responsibility and obligation as an american. hes made some questionable decisions in his nba career, but in terms of how he plays the game -- how can ANYONE criticize this guy? cant criticize his defense. cant criticize his mid-range game. cant criticize his passion for the game.
why.......do so many people yearn for the game to be played "like it was back in the 80s"? you mean when players literally stood around on defense and didnt contest shots and games were 130-125 often because of defensive apathy (as opposed to offensive prowess). guys pass the ball just as well (if not better) than they did back in the day. thats not the problem. we just need to shoot the ball better.
why........were so many americans rooting against this team? is it the players fault that the team was poorly constructed? doesnt the blame fail much squarer on the shoulders of the selection committee? this team was like an mlb olympic team composed of sammy sosa batting leadoff, followed by pujols, bonds, chavez, beltre, edmonds, sheffield, and delgado. some games, youll simply "outpower" teams because youre more talented. but that mlb "team" has no leadoff hitter, no ability to play small ball if need be, and no speed. which is what the americans had -- far and away the best talent -- but not necessarily a properly constructed team. lets put the blame on the guys who assembled the team.
