got it at 26.5 but still good to 24.

Iowa st is much improved over last years squad which even in a down year out yardaged iowa by a healthy margin. Iowa St has won this game 4 of the past 5 years. Look for a hard fought, low scoring game.

Hopefully many people will just look at Saturday's results of these two teams and bang ISU + the number and bring it down a bit. Regardless of where this number falls, I'll be on the Hawkeyes and will enjoy my Saturday at Kinnick watching the rout that this game will be.
Iowa State could only manage 23 points at home while playing a I-AA Northern Iowa squad. While Iowa didn't exactly play a tough foe in Kent State, at least they are a I-A program. Our new QB left the game due to cramps, as it was a very warm and humid day in Iowa City--probably one of the warmest days all summer, ironically enough- and all indications are that he suffered no ill effects from the heat and will be fine for next weeks game against the in-state rivals.
Plenty of questions remain as to how well the season will go for Iowa, but there is little doubt in my mind that another 39-7 kind of win against Iowa State is in the offing on 9/11.
Good luck to you if you play Iowa State....

Hawkeye-

good to see you this season, best of luck with your totals plays....:D

I'm not sure that Kent without Cribbs , is better then a top AA program like UNI.

Last year Kent and UNI each hosted a common oppenent, Youngstown St at home. UNI won by 38 and Kent won by 3.

Actually I do, hawkeye. A buddy at the tailgate on Saturday asked if anyone was going to the Iowa/Az State game or if we knew anybody that was as he had 2 tickets that he needed to get rid of. I'll try and get a hold of him tonight and see if he still has them.
You might also call the ticket office in Iowa City and see if they still have any in the Iowa section. if so, you probably still have enough time for them to mail them to you, or you could try Arizona State's ticket office.
If I reach my friend and he still has the tix, I'll get your e-mail address from Jack and we can take it from there.

I couldn't agree more. Even with Cribbs, Kent may not be better than UNI. Thanks for the common opponent comparison - that was fun!

Redsfann, what worried me about your team's performance was its rushing stats on O (though the D stats were very impressive). I know Iowa State's rush D was weak last year, but Iowa lost some O-linemen, and the stats suggested that the new line may take some time to jell. Obviously, you know a hell of a lot more about Iowa than I do, and you don't think it's a problem. Why?

Hawkeye-

I just missed getting those tickets for you, sorry about that. He told me when I talked to him last night that his wife's boss took them off their hands when he found out that they had a pair. Shouldn't be a problem getting them, its just that you might have to pay a bit more for them than you want to.

MW-

You bring up some very valid points, and I, too, am still concerned about the offensive line and the jelling they need to do before Big-10 play opens in a couple of weeks.
Iowa under Ferentz has returned to the glory years that we enjoyed under Hayden Fry in the 1980s. While we don't "re-load" like a Miami, Fla St or even Michigan or Ohio State in our own conference, the program is to the point that yearly trips to decent bowl games and 8-4, 9-3 records are not out of the question.
Iowa State on the other hand, is no where near that type of program. While they finally played in a bowl game or two under McCarney, he can't consistantly bring in the quality of talent that Ferentz can.
Iowa State is planning on rotating two QBs, both of whom, while mobile, aren't going to scare you with their arms. Flynn played a lot against us last year, and our defense befuddled him all day long--and this years defense may be better than last years.
Add it all up, and it looks to me to be a long afternoon for the boys from Ames on Saturday. I agree that 24-25 points maybe a touch too high, but nothing that I can see would make me wager on Iowa State. And, no, I'm far from a Scott4USC when it comes to my Hawkeyes. I'm at every home game and 2-3 roadies every season, and if I can put a few bucks in my pocket wagering against my team, I'll do it.
AS far as a total goes, I like Iowa to score at least 35 points, so if you are looking at playing the under and it comes in around 45 or so, you will have to determine if Iowa State will get more that 10 points. I'd lean to an over play at 45, but unless I see something that changes my mind, I'm passing on the total.
Hope this helps and good luck in however you wager on this one.....:D

It is not worth putting bucks in my pocket if it means rooting against my team. I have too much school pride to root against USC. I might suggest betting against USC (i said take V-Tech 1h and uner and both cashed) but I personally would never do it even if I think it is a LOCK!

Nice write-up!
