Chin-Hui Tsao will begin his transition to a relief role today. He's expected to be used mostly in the 6th-7th innings.
"I wouldn't say it's an audition," pitching coach Bob Apodaca said. "It's the best scenario available for him right now, and this is one of our needs for next year: a power arm at the back of the bullpen." If Tsao takes to the role, he might go into 2005 with a chance to close. Shawn Chacon has been miscast as a closer and could return to the rotation.

Jason Frasor seems to have hit a wall in this, his first full season in the majors.
He has allowed 13 earned runs over his last seven and two-thirds innings, and looks tired. Frasor, who is 17-for-19 in save opportunities, has been displaced by Justin Speier as the Blue Jay closer. The Jays will be looking to upgrade their bullpen prior to next season and Frasor's role going forward has yet to be determined.

Frank Brooks will make his first major league start Monday against the Cubs.
Brooks would have started in Thursday's doubleheader if not for Wednesday's rainout.

The Indians will call up Kyle Denney from Triple-A Buffalo to start Tuesday.
Denney will be replacing Jason Davis. With Kazuhito Tadano perhaps done, Denney could remain the Indians' fifth starter for the rest of the season.
