theres a ton of intriuging games this coming weekend. sun tzu - need your thoughts on ou/texas. i swear to god it seems like every conference has their own marquee game this week. looks like the linesmaker finally caught back up with toledo though. no more freebies. 14+ points on the road is steep.

actually sun, youre gonna half to talk me out of texas because im ready to moneyline the horns. that line hanging under a full TD makes me like texas even more. everyone knows OU has dominated texas, yet theyre not laying a TD? i know neutral field, but still. talk me out of making burnt orange my color of the week.

My primary thought is I hate the fuxing Sooners. My second thought is I hate ABC, putting this game at 11am. Beer and corndogs for breakfast is tough. Third, I have only lost this game once since 1989 (with 2 no plays along the way) so I have to trust my instincts, but they tell me Texas and I keep thinking I will wake up tomorrow and remember that Bob Stoops is coaching against Mack Brown.

BUT, I think Tomey and Robinson coaching defense will make an impact. They will be throwing things at OU that Texas hasnt done before, and there is no film to prepare. Vince Young's throwing worries me and the wide outs are useless, but Benson has been very strong and OU will have to waste a guy or two keying on Young. Texas also actually utilizes the tight ends now, a new wrinkle that hasnt been in issue the last few years. On the other side, Peterson is a stud but White looks even more immobile and Texas is going to blitz the shit out of him.

Finally, that line is just whack. It is begging for OU money and it will come in.

gman i always love your insight on games but i'm a firm believer in a big game on a nuetral site with each having a great running back as a wash, but the quarterback is a huge onesided edge to OU. I know it looks as they want money on texas, but believe line will move okl. way by game time. Okl. has faced and beaten better comppetition also. I am betting OU if under 7.

I dont know that we can call Peterson a great back yet, although we will some day. But there is nothing like this game and he hasnt been in that environment before. Fans fumble beers just talking about the game. Let's see what happens when he misses a blitz pickup or drops one on the ground.

arrow and sun:

great replies. thanks fellas. ill sleep on it for a few days and wait for the line to have its natural fluctuation. ST- that line about "waking up and remembering its stoops vs brown" is classic. looking forward to throwing cfb thoughts around with both of you guys in the coming days. also, sun- youre right, whats with the noon eastern start? hell, im in the EST and even i hate noon kickoffs. i can only imagine how weird itll be in the midwest

also, just to clarify, what im lookin at for GOY is not texas/ou game.

also ST - talk me out of betting houston to win the nl pennant. i know their middle relief is shaky, but NOBODY in the nl has good middle relief pitching this year. and lidge is so much better than people think. i trust him more than i trust isringhausen. obviously smoltz and gagne are far superior, but lidge is no slouch. one scary thing though: who is houstons 3rd starter? or 4th for that matter? theyre dominant 1/2, but they need somebody to step up

I bit on Oklahoma twice so far at -5.5 & -6. I can NOT trust my money on Mack Brown in a big game. This Oklahoma team hasn't shown much this season & imo have been setting up their best performance for this game. I think the rushing games are a draw so it will come down to defense & QB play, 2 areas that imo Oklahoma has a huge advantage over Texas.

I see another big key in this game being the mental aspect. The mental aspect is one of the most if not most important parts of football especially in college. Texas has the mental aspect that they can't beat these guys. I think if they make the first turnover of the game & it leads to Sooner points, they tank it as here we go again.

I wouldn't take Texas if you gave me 10 points to be honest.

Gman; enjoy your picks keep them coming; I would tread lightly on betting on Texas; I am from the area and follow the OU/Texas game and you always hear about how teams dont open up the playbook blah blah blah; well I know for a fact OU has not; they have played as vanilla as you can play it run, run, pass, run runn, pass. And although I think the addition of new def coord was a great pickup and a much needed change for Texas; Texas may throw some defensive wrinkles at them but Robinson hasnt seen anything that OU will throw at them anyone that has watched this series will tell you the same thing; that is the big difference between OU off and TX you will see the same TX offense that you have seen all year. Sun mentioned how TX tightends have been used alot this year that is an understatement as they are throwing to their tightends exclusively which to me is not a good thing. You can say what you want about OU defense slipping but they have given up 7 and 13 points to Oreg and Texas Tech and this is nothing to shake a stick at. The key to this game will be can Vince Young effectively throw the ball. If he cannot then this will be a complete blowout like last year if he can than the game will be very competitive. Still analyzing the game but if its under a TD; the sooners have to be the play. Good luck on whatever you end up playing though. Also looking at Texas Tech; Tech is a great home team and love the way their defense is playing.

bbk and mrhockey:

two more guys from whom i really appreciate the feedback. those are exactly the responses i was looking for. i know its super early in the week, but the vibe im getting from you local guys is that this could be another 'same ol, same ol' effort from texas vs okie. and i respect that. i might very well pass this game altogether and just focus on the rest of the card. again, thanks boys. appreciate your contributions. it helps a lot.

"the bunker"
was kinda looking over n.ill. laying a big 17 on the road at cent fla....c.f. has been getting bombed every week ....albeit by good competition(wisky, penn st and west va)...then,last week they had 48 hung on them by buffalo....

last week,n.ill got josh haldi back and they scored quickly and often vs akron.....and held charlie frye in check....they actually pulled haldi in the 3rd qtr...

ucf has quite a few injuries and a few suspensions...n.ill.only has cent mich on deck....

they rested back aj harris...but there`s no drop off with back-up garrett wolfe...sheldon catching passes all over the lot..and returning kicks...

this club has to be the class of the mac...and with haldi back, they are clicking on all cylinders....

i like it...

what do you think, mac guru?........is 17 to heavy a burden on the road?....

thanks..

bbk i agree .. OU should roll again, forget what has transpired so far in 2004 ... History repeats ... I guess the only question I have is Zona Stoops missed that badly, that may not be answered until after this game to some degree ... I didnt like what I saw from Texas QB up in arky--gotta belive it'll be eye opener come saturday
